Cairo giants Al Ahly have announced the shutting down of all of its three branches as well as suspending all sports activities due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The coronavirus has diffused rapidly in several countries causing some to suspend their footballing activities, including England, Italy, Spain, and Germany and live gatherings in general.
The World Health Organization (WHO) classified the coronavirus as a pandemic last week, alarming the entire world nations to be put on a state of emergency.
This led Al Ahly’s board of directors, led by Mahmoud El-Khatib, held several meetings to discuss the precautionary measures that the club should be taking to preserve the safety and health of the members and workers based on instructions given by the country as well as the world health organization.
Following those meetings, Al Ahly issued an official statement announcing their decision to completely shut down the three branches of the club (Gezira – Nasr City – Sheikh Zayed), starting tomorrow March 22nd until end of Month.
Moreover, they also stated that they will be reassessing the situation again at the end of March and might reconsider the end date according to the situation then and the instructions of the WHO.

The decisions did not end there, the club also announced the suspension of any sports activity inside the club. Not only has El-Khatib met with the club’s board, but also Renier Weiler, The football’s team manager to discuss the continuation of the suspension of the training to preserve the health of players and all the staff.
