Report: Bayern Munich interested in PSG right-back Thomas Meunier

According to a report by Sport BildBayern Munich are interested in Paris Saint-Germain right-back Thomas Meunier. The Belgian, whose contract expires this summer, may be one of the few players available for a low price this January.
This is now the fourth right-back to whom Bayern have been linked in recent months, following rumored interest in players such as Manchester City’s João Cancelo and Borussia Dortmund’s Achraf Hakimi. It’s clear that the Bavarians are looking for someone to add to the depth at fullback so that Joshua Kimmich can continue playing in defensive midfield and Benjamin Pavard can move back to his preferred position at center-back.
The same report alleges that Jerome Boateng, who has attracted interest from Serie A club AC Milan, will not be allowed to leave in the winter owing to the team’s lack of depth. Winter departures are always unlikely anyway, so this isn’t much of a surprise, but it’s likely that Boateng will be gone come summer. Bayern’s current search for a right-back, therefore, could be an attempt to mitigate the impact of his departure by allowing Pavard to move back to center-back.
Of course, moving Joshua Kimmich back to the defense would accomplish the same thing, without needing to spend on a stopgap measure like Meunier, but Bayern seem to be committed to the idea of copying Germany and playing Kimmich as a midfielder. In that case, the club could certainly do worse than the 28-year-old Belgian.
