Watford v Liverpool ratings: Can spectacular; Lallana sublime

Emre Can: Celebrates his winner at Watford

Liverpool grabbed a huge three points in their bid to secure Champions League football after a 1-0 win at Watford and we rate the players.
WATFORD
Heurelho Gomes: Made a couple of excellent stops and had some slightly hairy moments. Gomes in a nutshell. 7
Daryl Janmaat: Tried to get forward but not as comfortable playing on the left. 6
Miguel Britos: Had top go off early on and had little impact on the game. 6
Sebastian Prodl: Strong in the tackle but spurned a great chance to level in injury-time when he hit the bar. Booked. 6
Adrian Mariappa: Solid display but struggled with Divock Origi’s movement at times. 6
Nordin Amrabat: Plenty of effort down the right but lacking a final ball. 6
Tom Cleverley: Non-stop engine but normal quality on the ball was missing. 6
Etienne Capoue: Watford’s best player until he was subbed as the Hornets looked for an equaliser. Booked. 7
Abdoulaye Doucoure: Plenty of endeavour but Liverpool’s midfield movement caused him problems. 6
M’Baye Niang: Started brightly but faded badly. 6
Troy Deeney: Not his normal self, first touch was not the best and he was a frustrated figure. 6
Substitutes
Christian Kabasele (On for Britos, 18 minutes): Made no real impact. 6
Isaac Success (On for Capoue, 72 minutes): Only impact on the game was to get booked. 5
Stefano Okaka (On for Amrabat, 85 minute): Looked quite lively when he came on but little time to make an impact. 6
LIVERPOOL
Simon Mignolet: Not much to do for Reds stopper but had a solid night. 6
Nathaniel Clyne: Got forward well, as always, but rarely tested defensively. 7
Joel Matip: Powerful display from the giant defender. 7
Dejan Lovren: Much more comfortable night after his troubles against Crystal Palace. 7
James Milner: Mr Dependable but not as good on the ball as he usually is. 6
Emre Can: His winning goal alone was worth a 10! Good all-round display from the German star. 8
Lucas Leiva: Put in his usual shift and produced a pinpoint pass for the winning goal. 7
Georginio Wijnaldum: Not really involved and had one of his quieter games of the season. 6
Roberto Firmino: Didn’t have his normal impact on the game. 6
Divock Origi: Ran the channels well and provided a good focal point for his side. 7
Philippe Coutinho: Looked lively early on before going off with a dead leg. 6
Substitutes
Adam Lallana (On for Coutinho, 12 minutes): Like he’d never been away. His first touch is sublime at times and was so unlucky to see a volley hit the bar. 7
Daniel Sturridge (On for Origi, 83 minutes): Didn’t have long to make an impact. 6
Ragnar Klavan (On for Lallana, 86 minutes): Brought on to strengthen the defence in the closing minutes. 6
