Manchester United 1-1 Celta Vigo: Player ratings

Sergio Romero 6.5 – Made a number of routine saves and looked comfortable coming out to intercept anything Celta lumped into the box.
Antonio Valencia 7 – Came back into the side after being rested against Arsenal and produced another indefatigable display, coping well with the lively Pione Sisto on the right hand side.

Eric Bailly 6 – A rock at the back once again: positioned himself well, but was sent off for the second time in the Europa League after an incident in the closing minutes of the game with a straight red card.
Daley Blind 5.5 – An uncharacteristically shaky performance from the Dutchman. Gave the ball away twice in the opening five minutes and picked up a needless booking. Improved in the second half.
Matteo Darmian 6 – Occasionally struggled to deal with the pace Hugo Mallo when the Spaniard knocked the ball past him but was solid on the ball and disciplined throughout.
Ander Herrera 7 – Once again the engine in midfield: Celta threw everything at the home side but, time and time again, the Spaniard was there to foil them.
Marouane Fellaini 6.5 – Thundered home Manchester United’s opening goal in the first half with a powerful header and moved the ball along nicely. Made the occasional needless foul.
Paul Pogba 7.5 – Celta couldn’t cope with him in Spain and they couldn’t do much better at Old Trafford. The Frenchman was just too strong, too mobile and miles ahead in terms of technical ability. Produced some sumptuous moments on the ball.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan 7 – A start improvement from his last two outings in a Man United shirt. Treated the home crowd to a number of dazzling surges forward and worked hard to maintain his side’s advantage with some energetic tracking back in the second period.
Jesse Lingard 6 – Looked bright on the ball during the opening stages and supplied a few promising – but ultimately unanswered – crosses but sometimes drifted out of the game.
Marcus Rashford 7 – Didn’t see as much of the ball this time around against the Spaniards but harassed their back four whenever he received the chance and supplied a sumptuous assist for Fellaini.
