Dele Alli and Harry Kane were on target for Spurs at their previously unhappy second home
Tottenham are on their way to the Europa League, a consolation prize for their dire form up until tonight in the Champions League.
Mauricio Pochettino's side were comfortable winners at their unhappy second home despite going 1-0 down in the first half following a strike from Dzagoev.
Dele Alli equalised in the 38th minute before Harry Kane claimed the lead in time added on in the first half.
Akinfeev's own goal in the 78th minute assured Spurs of a place in the second tier of Europe, which they needed just a draw to secure.
Are Kyle Walker and Danny Rose the best full-back pairing in the country?
It is difficult to think of one that is better. Both are athletic and do not look ouut of place when in the attacking third. Attacking full-backs are essential to the Mauricio Pochettino system and this pair fit the bill.
Is Dele Alli now back to his best?
There is certainly a swagger to his game now that was missing earlier in the season. He missed the proverbial sitter early on but that did not affect his confidence – as he showed with the way he took his goal in the 38 minute.
Can Eric Dier be as effective in central defence ?
As a stop-gap, yes. But he does not look comfortable against pace. Aerial duels are not a problem. However, when the ball is moved around at speed on the ground, Dier finds it hard to recover. Looked more at home when he moved into midfield for the last 20 minutes when Toby Alderweireld made his comeback.
Victor Wanyama – is he adjusting to life at Spurs?
If he was to be judged on sheer power and strength, Wanyama would pass with flying colours. What he needs to work on is his distribution. That is found wanting at times. The effort is there. The willingness to tackle and press is evident. Just a touch more finesses would be welcome.
Can Spurs be effective at Wembley next season?
On tonight's evidence, yes they can. But the CSKA Moscow team were by some distance the least capable of their Champions League opponents. They sat deep and relied on breakaways. Spurs are unlikely to enjoy such domination when they switch their domestic programme to Wembley next season.
