Juventus won again, as Roma demolished Bologna to stay four points behind thanks to a Mohamed Salah hat-trick.
The Milan clubs managed to get the three points, AC Milan beat Palermo and Inter thumped Crotone.
Atalanta’s magic continues, as they beat Sassuolo to fly into fifth place, with Torino demolishing Cagliari and Lazio and Napoli failing to be separated.
Our Team of the Week will see a 3-4-3 formation deployed.
Lukas Skorupski – Empoli (2 Team of the Week appearances)
The Empoli keeper replicated the incredible game against Roma to secure his goal at Pescara and keep a clean sheet. The visitors won comfortably, but early on in the game Skorupski’s saves were crucial to put the game on
Mattia Caldara – Atalanta
You wouldn’t think he’s a defender when you see his goal against Sassuolo. The class of ’95 defender is growing up fast and as well as providing a threat up front, he is as solid as ever at the back.
Andrea Conti – Atalanta
Like his team mate Caldara, this defender could seem like a striker when you look at the natural way he fired home La Dea’s third in Sassuolo. Add to that the running up and down the right flank and you get a fantastic performance all-round.
Kalidou Koulibaly – Napoli (2 apps)
The game against Lazio was one of the most balanced so far this season and could have ended in every possible way. Napoli risked conceding more than just Keita Balde’s goal, and Koulibaly was a strong contender for the player of the match award, holding strong at the back for the Partenopei.
Mohamed Salah – Roma
Three goals scored, for the first time in his career, and another three almost scored: simply a demon on that right flank to keep Roma’s hopes of trailing Juventus. What more can he do?
Miralem Pjanic – Juventus (2 apps)
Finally decisive for Juve and he’s starting to be at the heart of the team too. The free kick that gives Massimiliano Allegri the edge over Chievo and three points in the table could prove to be vital come May.
Marco Benassi – Torino
Another goal to add to his tally, as well as hard work and quality in the middle. The perfect midfielder for Sinisa Mihajlovic, who wants quantity as much as quality.
Juan Cuadrado – Juventus
Had he scored after dribbling past four opponents everyone would be talking about one of the most memorable goals ever. In any case, the Colombian is that spark to light up Juve’s attacking manoeuvre and does so also against Chievo.
Andrea Belotti – Torino (4 apps)
The Rooster keeps on singing and finally also scored a penalty. Belotti opened Torino’s wonderful night of football with the 1-0 and then closes it with the 5-1 from the penalty spot, adding a constant pressure on defenders, perfect passing to his team mates and quality of play that make him the best Italian striker right now.
Massimo Maccarone – Empoli
Empoli finally score again after 9 games without finding the net and two goals are courtesy of Big Mac – Massimo Maccarone – the opener and the 3-0 that killed the game as a contest.
Gianluca Lapadula – AC Milan
“The back heel of the Devil” read La Gazzetta dello Sport’s front page and rightly so as Lapadula found his first Serie A goal with a stunning back heel, taking the Diavolo up the table, leaving Lazio and Napoli in their tracks.
