The Clarets are placed ninth in the table at the moment, and in order to secure an entry into Europe, they need an eighth-place finish or better. While it certainly is a tough proposition that they have to take on the newly-crowned champions, there’s a silver lining.
The three teams directly above that of Sean Dyche’s men – all have tough encounters this weekend, and if the Clarets manage to overcome this challenge, they surely do have a shot at representing England next year in the continent.
However, it needs to be noted that Jurgen Klopp’s men have shown no signs of stopping even after mathematically ensuring the title. They appear to be gunning towards breaking the record set by Pep Guardiola’s men for the most number of points in a season.
The Reds do not have any competition remaining, and they could solely concentrate in the league. As such, expect Liverpool, who have a great h2h record over this rival, to deliver the better performance. Still, do not count on a clean sheet for them, as Burnley surely will be ready for a fight this weekend.
Liverpool vs Burnley: Head-to-head (h2h)
- The reverse fixture saw Klopp’s men win on the road with a 0-3 scoreline.
- They are also on a four-game winning run against this opponent.
- Five of the former six matches had goals from both teams.
- At this venue, the hosts have failed to keep clean sheets in the last three meetings.
Liverpool vs Burnley: Prediction
The Reds recorded a 1-3 win on the road the last match-day, against Brighton. The high point of the game was surely the return to form of Mohammed Salah – who scored twice and created another.
In the meantime, the Clarets secured a 0-1 win on the road against West Ham. It was a hard-fought victory for the team, and once again highlighted Nick Pope’s stature as one of the best goalkeepers in the PL.
As things stand, Klopp’s men have the slight upper hand. They are at their favorite hunting ground (Anfield), and are raring to break the 100-point record set by Manchester City.
They had also won 14 of the preceding 15 games at this venue, and have a 100% winning record at this venue in h2h clashes, disregarding a single draw. Keep note that they have also scored two or more goals in all but one h2h fixture at this stadium.
As such, expect Liverpool to be the better team on the pitch. However, understand that Dyche’s men are on the verge of Europe, and they really do not have anything to lose – and a whole lot to gain. Count on them to play fearlessly.
Moreover, the defense of the Reds have been a bit sloppy in the past few games, while the Clarets have been performing impressively since the season resumed. Expect them to score at least once this weekend.
