Manuel Neuer explains the team’s decision to help Bayern’s employees

Bayern Munich’s captain explained how he and the players arrived at the decision to take a pay-cut to support Bayern’s employees.

The players and front office of Bayern Munich decided earlier this week to accept a 20 percent pay-cut to provide relief for Bayern’s employees. In an interview with TZManuel Neuer spoke about the need to take action:
We pro soccer players are an especially privileged group, for which it’s self-evident to make financial cuts when there’s need. FC Bayern has about 1,000 employees and many more who perform important jobs around the club. We want to help and give them security with our sacrifice as a team.
Neuer described the team’s collective decision to take a pay-cut. A small group of players discussed the measure with the front office, and then Neuer spoke with the rest of the team:
The decision was not at all hard to make, because it’s self-evident. It was a circle of players that discussed with the team management and then it was my job as captain to inform all the other actors. The immediate positive reaction that I received in every conversation was great.
And that is how Bayern Munich decided to support their large staff at the club.
