TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
One of Brazil's most ageless players of the modern era is being linked to MLS, as O Globo reported on Christmas Day that Fluminense attacker Nene could move to an unnamed team in the North American league.
On first blush it seems that this one should be taken with more than a few grains of salt: Though an elite creative force in some of Europe's top leagues in his prime, Nene (full name Anderson Luiz de Carvalho) is now 38, putting him way outside the age range of MLS's shifting paradigm of overseas signings.
Typically deployed as a winger or attacking midfielder, he's starred for the likes of Alaves, Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain and Vasco da Gama over the course of his peripatetic career. Joining Fluminense this year, Nene struggled to contribute consistently and has occasionally drawn the wrath of their supporters as the Rio de Janeiro club slumped to a disappointing 14th-place finish in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A.
He now could be deemed surplus to requirements under new manager Odair Helmann, who's been tasked with cutting the team's wage bill as well as improving results on the pitch.
