READ CELTIC VERDICT
Celtic wearing black armbands as a mark of respect is no less that a club hero like MacKay deserves.
The former Hoops defender enjoyed a nine-year spell with the club and he made his debut in a 4-1 victory over Clyde in 1958.
MacKay then went on to make over 235 appearances for Celtic, and he spent two years as captain before passing the armband on to fellow Hoops great Billy McNeil.
Our thoughts and prayers are with MacKay’s friends and family at such a difficult time.
