BVB could really pull off an upset this Wednesday. They are in form, and lead the aggregate scoreline 2-1. And on top of that, the Parisian defense will be weaker due to the absence of Thiago Silva due to injury. However, with the likes of Neymar Jr, Kylian Mbappe etc in attack, the chances for the Germans to keep a clean sheet seem pretty low.
Match Preview
In an exciting encounter, the Germans secured a 2-1 win at home in the first leg. Both goals for Favre’s men came from Norwegian sensation Erling Haaland, while the valuable away goal for the French outfit was scored by Neymar (assisted by Mbappe).
Thomas Tuchel’s men are awaiting a trial by fire. They have been tearing things apart in France as usual, but that longer constitutes a challenge for the squad. With some of the costliest and best players in the world even in their bench, French supremacy seems like an underachievement for the unit.
European glory is necessary for the Parisians if they are to justify their extravagant spending in the market. Moreover, Neymar was brought in for the sole purpose of a CL triumph, and if he fails to show up when it really matters for the third time in a row, the fans will lose all patience with him (especially with the ever-ripe Barca rumors surrounding the player).
On top of that, Tuchel’s men will be weak at the back due to the absence of the Brazilian wall, Thiago Silva. However, they would hope to counter that with the inability of Marco Reus to play due to an injury (surprise, surprise!!).
PSG vs Borussia Dortmund Head-to-head (h2h)
- The reverse fixture ended in a 2-1 win for Lucien Favre’s men, at home.
- Earlier, these two had clashed in the Europa League, in 2010. Then, both legs ended in draws. The Parisians played out a goalless draw at home, while the German leg ended in a 1-1 draw.
- As such, BVB hold a 100% unbeaten record against this opponent.
PSG vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction
With some of the best strikers of this generation on either side, and with the tie still hanging in balance, both squads will resort to an attacking brand of football. Moreover, they both already are famous for over reliance on attacking, and at the same time, coming up short in terms of defense.
As such, expect both teams to score goals. It really would be an upset if the likes of Haaland, Thorgan Hazard, Achraf Hakimi, Jadon Sancho, Angel Di Maria, Neymar, and Mbappe fail to find the back of the net.
In terms of result though, the fact that the Parisians have always crumbled under pressure may come back and haunt them. They are already trailing in aggregate, and without Silva, they will have to leave spaces at the back, and go looking for a goal. The in-form Germans should smartly make use of this desperation.
Moreover, BVB have a 100% unbeaten record against this rival, and at present, they are on a five-game winning run (a run which included some incredible teams like Monchengladbach, Frankfurt, PSG etc).
Favre’s men have also scored a total of 18 goals from their previous 6 road games, while Tuchel’s men have managed a single clean sheet from their prior 8 overall match-ups. And do keep note that this sole clean sheet had come against a relegation-threatened Dijon. As a result, expect the determined Borussia Dortmund to go through to the Quarters of the CL.
