Roger Schmidt will take charge as coach of PSV Eindhoven for next season, the Dutch Eredivisie club announced on Wednesday.
German Schmidt has signed a two-year deal with the former European champions and will replace interim boss Ernest Faber, who took over at PSV following the sacking of Mark van Bommel in December.
"I have always been captivated by the charm of Dutch football and I am really looking forward to exploring a new environment," Schmidt said.
"PSV fully support the style of play I have in mind. And I fully support PSV's wish to win silverware."
The 52-year-old was without a job after being sacked by Chinese Super League club Beijing Sinobo Guoan in July.
He also spent two years at Red Bull Salzburg -- winning the Austrian double in 2014 -- and three at Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga.
With eight matches left until the end of the season, PSV are fourth in the Eredivisie, seven points behind leaders and reigning champions Ajax.
