The Yomiuri ShimbunBarcelona and Spain star Andres Iniesta has agreed to an annual salary and other basic terms with J.League’s Vissel Kobe, it was learned Friday.
The 34-year-old, regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world, led Spain to its first World Cup title in South Africa in 2010, scoring the winning goal in the final.
He has appeared in three consecutive World Cups, beginning with the 2006 tournament in Germany.
Should he complete the deal with Vissel, he is expected to visit Japan as early as this month and hold a press conference in Tokyo.
A fixture in Barcelona’s lineup, Iniesta has been key in guiding the Spanish powerhouse to multiple Spanish League and UEFA Champions League titles. He announced last month he would leave the club at the end of the season.
Vissel last year signed former German national team player Lukas Podolski, 32, to a contract worth an estimated ¥600 million annual salary. The first-division side appears set to add a world-class player for the second straight season.
