FC Dallas 2, Philadelphia Union 0 | 2018 MLS Match Recap

FC Dallas remain one of the only two unbeaten teams in the league. The Philadelphia Unionremain searching for answers and goals.
At a rainy Toyota Stadium on Saturday night, second-half substitutes Mauro Diaz and Maximiliano Urruti struck for goals after the break to propel Dallas to a 2-0 win over visiting Philly.
Diaz broke the scoreless deadlock on a 64th-minute penalty kick after Auston Trusty took down Matt Hedges in the box. Trusty was one of two teenagers starting at center back for Philly, along with Mark McKenzie, who was making his MLS debut in place of the injured Jack Elliott
Urruti sealed the win 10 minutes later, running onto a Roland Lamah through ball and using a clever touch to get around Union goalkeeper Andre Blake, who made eight saves on the night, including a couple of diving ones.

Three Things

  • BIG PICTURE: FC Dallas have quietly been one of the best teams in MLS this year, improving to 3-0-3 and keeping pace with New York City FC as the only club without a loss. And after Saturday’s shutout, they’ve only allowed three goals through six games. The Union (1-3-2), meanwhile, have only scored once in the past five games and haven’t won since the season opener.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: While Blake provided most of the goalkeeping highlights of the night, it was Dallas goalie Jimmy Maurer who came through with a fantastic double save on David Accam and CJ Sapong in the 58th minute, keeping the game tied and setting the stage for Dallas’ late breakthrough.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Diaz only played 29 minutes but completely changed the game after coming in, along with Urruti. Credit there goes to head coach Oscar Pareja, too, for making the timely subs after watching his team continually get behind the Union’s young backline in the first half while failing to find the back of the net.
