Three things we learned from the Utah Royals’ win against Houston

Here are three things we learned from the Utah Royals FC 1-0 win over the Houston Dash.

1. Tymrak more comfortable in her role

In Erika Tymrak’s first start of the season, she made sure to make the most of it. In the 55th minute of action, Tymrak’s right-footed attempt got the Royals on the board first and ultimately secured their second win of the season. Although Tymrak has not been receiving as many minutes as she might like as a substitute, her actions on the pitch Saturday afternoon showed she is making the right adjustments to contribute whatever she can to the team.
“It’s been tough being a sub this season, but I came out and I just wanted to help the team out, and I ended up getting a goal,” Tymrak said. “I really think the team played awesome and we played 90 minutes of good futbol, and there’s not much more you can ask.”

2. Royals coming together

In the team’s first season, it has played fairly well and things are only getting better. So far in May, the team holds a 2-1-0 record, and it seems to have gotten over some of those growing pains a new club typically experiences.
After the game, Desiree Scott mentioned how the team has been completely supportive of one another, and that team chemistry is going to be vital on the road. The team won’t be playing another game in Rio Tinto Stadium until late June.
“The chemistry is building and we’re really growing as a team,” Scott said. “As individuals we’re supporting each other on and off the pitch.”

3. Rodriguez: ‘World-class athlete’

Not everyone would pass up the opportunity to score, but Amy Rodriguez tends to recognize what’s best for the team.
As Gunnhildur Yrsa Jónsdóttir crossed the ball into the box, both Rodriguez and Tymrak were in the vicinity, both with the chance to score in front of their home crowd. Rodriguez essentially called it a no-brainer — of course she was going to give Tymrak that opportunity, she had the better angle after all. But head coach Laura Harvey begs to differ.
“Not many center forwards would not shoot there. And I said to her straight after the goal and when she came off and just in the locker room, she’s world class,” Harvey said. “Amy Rodriguez is world class. And I don’t think she believes not many people would do that, but not many people would do that.”
