Los Angeles Football Club 2, Minnesota United FC 0 | 2018 MLS Match Recap

LAFC continued their undefeated start to life at Banc of California Stadium on Wednesday, comfortably defeating Minnesota United 2-0 via goals from Eduard Atuesta and Mark-Anthony Kaye, the first career MLS tallies for both.
Traveling halfway across the continent in midweek with few strikers at their disposal, MNUFC struggled to hold the ball or create sustained attacking pressure, with LAFC bossing the midfield and topping most statistical categories.
Atuesta opened the scoring with a deflected finish after receiving a low cross from Diego Rossi, and Kaye doubled the lead a few minutes later with a close-range volley after Latif Blessingoutjumped Francisco Calvo to flick on a deflected ball in the Loons penalty box.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: LAFC continue to vacuum up points and build momentum, suggesting that they could be legit postseason contenders in their inaugural season, while Minnesota look shorthanded and below par in several areas.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Blessing's impressive leap to beat Calvo, the Loons' captain, bagged him an assist, gave the home side all the cushion they needed and underlined their superiority on this occasion.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Mark-Anthony Kaye has made a very impressive transition from USL to MLS this season, patrolling LAFC's central midfield with authority, and vs. MNUFC he marked another solid outing with his first MLS goal.
