HEAD-TO-HEAD All-time meetings: Real Madrid W10, Bayern Munich W8, D1
PREDICTION Bayern Munich have it all to do if they are to reach a first Champions League final since 2013. The German giants make the journey to the Spanish capital this evening with a 2-1 first leg deficit to overturn.
Last week saw Jupp Heynckes’ men on top early on, but they failed to land a knockout blow when Real Madrid were on the ropes, something that they were duly punished for in the second half when a rare defensive error gave the holders the advantage going into the return leg.
Real Madrid are now just one step away from a third successive final and a fourth in five seasons. They may not have been at their best domestically, but there is no doubting their European pedigree once again.
They suffered a huge scare in the previous round when Juventus nearly completed a dramatic comeback and although there is less work for Bayern to do in that respect, you get the feeling that it was an opportunity missed for Bayern in the first leg. All signs point to a Real Madrid appearance in this month’s final.
