MUANGTHONG THROUGH TO LAST 16 AFTER BEATING BRISBANE ROAR

Nonthaburi: Muangthong United have advanced to the last 16 of the 2017 AFC Champions League for the first time after easing to a 3-0 win over Brisbane Roar on Wednesday to ensure a top-two finish in Group E with a game to spare while eliminating the Australian side.
The hosts had the better of the first-half at the Thunderdome Stadium, but struggled to make the most of their dominance in possession until Spanish striker Xisco got on the end of Tristan Do’s cross in the 37th minute.
The Thai champions opted to sit back a little more in the second-half and invited pressure from a young Brisbane side. But with ten minutes left on the clock, a piece of magic from Chanathip Songkrasin sealed the match for the home side, skipping through the heart of the visitors' defence before rounding goalkeeper Tomislav Bilic to walk the ball into the open net.
Teerasil Dangda then rounded out the 3-0 win by getting on the end of Peerapat Notchaiya’s shot-cum-cross to bundle the ball home, ensuring Muangthong moved back to the top of the standings ahead of Kashima Antlers to seal their place in the Round of 16.
Muangthong need just a draw against Kashima in the battle for top spot in Group E in two weeks' time after the J.League side also confirmed their passage to the knockout phase following a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Ulsan Hyundai.
