Leeds United are on the cusp of achieving promotion to the Premier League after their impressive run in the second half of the season. It remains to be seen though whether the Coronavirus break would do more harm or good for the Whites as they had built up some impressive momentum of late.
Some fears are there regarding this season getting cancelled. However, we believe that would be an unlikely scenario when most of the season is already played. Noel Whelan meanwhile recently claimed that he would love to have James Milner back at Leeds United. However, he did indicate that it might be unlikely to happen next season.
Whelan On Having Milner Back
Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said, “You want your home-grown back at your football club. I am not sure if he would leave Liverpool right now. He is one player that Liverpool would want to keep because of the professionalism he has.
“He looks after his body, and he still has the hunger to win. He has got a lot to offer. I would love him back at the club at some point. I am not sure whether it would be next season, but he would help us, absolutely.”
Will Milner Be A Good Signing?
Milner broke onto the scene with Leeds United when he was just 16, and the fact that he is playing for a club of Liverpool’s stature at the age of 34 shows his quality. He might not be a regular for the Reds, but Klopp relies on him heavily to see off games. Milner has so far managed 33 appearances in all competitions this campaign, scoring four and assisting four goals in the process.
The midfielder is capable of playing in numerous positions for which he is often termed as a manager’s dream in terms of doing a job and professionalism. Milner still looks fit as ever, and age just seems to be a number for him as he has taken good care of his body and fitness over the years. Hence, we agree with Whelan that he would still be a handy player for Leeds United.
The former England international still has his contract at Liverpool until 2022 which was extended just last year. Klopp certainly wants to have him around his team so a move in the next summer might look improbable. However, if the Whites decide to come up with a decent offer, then the Reds could consider selling him. But things could also depend on Milner on whether he would want to stay at Liverpool for one or two more seasons or head back to Leeds United if they make it to the Premier League.
