The oldest international football rivalry of them all will be renewed on Friday evening when England takes on Scotland in this crucial Group F World Cup qualifier. England has had a good start to the campaign and are in 1st place but it has been a bizarre one given the appointment and then sacking of Sam Allardyce after 1 game.
Gareth Southgate is now overseeing the England set up and a win here would take them on 10 points and a positive step to qualification. The Three Lions are unbeaten so far, but have only played one game at home which was an unconvincing 2-0 victory over Malta.
Scotland still has a chance despite mixed form and calls for manager Gordon Strachan to quit. Indeed if they were to pull off a shock win they would be on the same points as England and so there is everything to play for. Scotland has played 2 games away from home losing to Slovenia 3-0 but beating Malta 5-1.
England vs Scotland: Head to Head Stats
We can go back to the very first international in 1870 for the first match up of these two historic teams. This game will mark the 113th time they have played. England has 47 wins Scotland 41 and there have been 25 draws. Scotland has only beaten England twice in the last 30 years and do not have a good record away from home.
England vs Scotland: Prediction
England has gone the last 3 games unbeaten and has lost just 1 match from their past six which was the surprise game v Iceland at Euro 2016. Scotland have lost 3 games from their past 5 and have no consistency. England should win this game and move on in the group. Scotland against quality sides have looked lost away from home and that is set to continue here.
