League leaders Liverpool will look keep their incredible start to the season going when they face a tough game against Sheffield United at Anfield on Thursday night.
Jurgen Klopp’s men had to grind hard to get a win over Wolves on Sunday, but it is something they have been good at in the past six to eight months.
In the reverse fixture against Chris Wilder’s Blades in October, the Reds struggled big time and had to thank Dean Henderson for his goalkeeping blunder to get a win.
So, the European champions have to play extremely well to keep their winning run in the league going.
In terms of team news, Klopp updated us that Fabinho, Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are in a good way but still a bit away from being involved in training. Xherdan Shaqiri is also in the same boat.
Takumi Minamino trained for the first time on New Year’s eve and did well.
That being said, here’s how we think Klopp may line his XI up:
GK - ALISSON
The Brazilian has kept five clean sheets in the last six games. He will aim to do the same on Thursday.
RB - TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD
The youngster has been in top form in the past few weeks in terms of creating chances. He should be in the team against the Blades.
CB - JOE GOMEZ
The Englishman has been in good form off late. With injuries to other players in that position, he is there to partner Virgil van Dijk.
CB - VIRGIL VAN DIJK
The Dutchman wasn’t at his best against Wolves and still managed to keep a clean sheet. He would aim to touch his high standards on Thursday.
LB - ANDY ROBERTSON
He has played a lot of games recently, but Klopp wouldn’t want to rest him from such a big game.
CDM - GEORGINIO WIJNALDUM
Captain Jordan Henderson has played a lot of games recently. He could do with a rest and Wijnaldum slotting back in defensive midfield.
RCM - NABY KEITA
He only came on for the last few minutes against Wolves. We expect him to feature from the start on Thursday night.
LCM - JAMES MILNER
Just like Keita, Milner only played the last few minutes against Wolves. Klopp could field him from the start in midfield, hoping to add more energy in that position.
RW- MOHAMED SALAH
Salah played as a central striker on Sunday and wasn’t at his best. We could see him back at right-wing against the Blades.
ST - ROBERTO FIRMINO
The Brazil international was unusually quiet against Wolves in a number 10 position. For that reason, we could see him slotting into that false nine role for this game.
LW - SADIO MANE
Despite not being at his best, Mane scored the winning goal against Wolves. He is one of the first names on the teamsheet for some time now, and would be on Thursday as well.
