Mandalay: Than Quang Ninh claimed their first win of the 2017 AFC Cup as the action in Group H drew to a close on Tuesday, beating Myanmar’s Yadanarbon FC 3-0 at Mandalar Thiri Stadium.
The Vietnamese side went into an early lead in the first half thanks to a 28th-minute Nay Myo Aung own goal, before Van Khoa doubled the visitors’ advantage with a sumptuous free kick 11 minutes after the restart.
Substitute Hai Huy then made the points safe with a fine solo effort after a neat one-two with Xuan Tu on the right wing in the 73rd minute, to see Than Quang Ninh leapfrog Yadanarbon into second place on four points in the three-team group.
Home United had already sealed top spot on nine points and, despite Than Quang Ninh’s victory in Mandalay, it remains to be seen whether it will be enough to see them join the Singaporean side in the ASEAN Zonal Semi-finals as one of the best runners-up.
