Doha: Syria’s Al Jaish saw their hopes of a place in the knockout phase of the 2017 AFC Cup shattered by two goals in the final quarter of their meeting with Al Suwaiq that handed the Oman side a 2-1 win on Tuesday.
Abdul Malik Al Anizan gave Al Jaish the lead with a deflected shot from outside the area in the 55th minute, but goals from Mamdou Diagne and Tchetche Kipre in the 69th and 73rd minutes respectively earned Al Suwaiq their first win of the campaign.
The result means Al Jaish finish in second place in the group, three points behind Iraq’s Al Zawraa, who take the group’s only place in the next round of the competition. Al Suwaiq finish in fourth, despite the win.
