Minnesota United FC 0, San Jose Earthquakes 1 | 2017 MLS Match Recap

The home team was trying to put together their first winning streak in MLS play, but visitors the San Jose Earthquakes didn't play along. After a scoreless first half, the Quakes rallied for a second-half goal to beat host Minnesota United 1-0 Saturday at TCF Bank Stadium. That made for their first win since Week 2 of the season.
Florian Jungwirth scored off a scramble on a corner kick in the 54th minute to give the Quakes the lead and the visitors hung on against a late flurry by the Loons to take all three points.

Three Things

  1. SCORELESS STREAK ENDS: After allowing 24 goals in their first seven games, Minnesota United posted their first clean sheet in Game 8 and after a scoreless first half Saturday had stretched their scoreless streak to four consecutive halves - 183 minutes overall. The streak ended with Florian Jungwirth's goal at 191 minutes, but one goal allowed over five consecutive halves isn't bad, right?
  2. QUICK TURNAROUND: After a six-game winless streak, suddenly, the Earthquakes have 12 points from nine games, and they look right in the thick of things in the Western Conference. And all it took was one goal, from Florian Jungwirth, and one save from goalkeeper David Bingham
  3. WELCOME TO MLS: Brooklyn Park, MN native Ismaila Jome made his MLS debut, coming on for Minnesota United as a substitute for Kevin Molino in the 79th minute. Jome played for the Loons last year, when the club were in the NASL, and he scored in his professional debut. No goal in his MLS debut, though.
