Federico Chiesa has called playing for Fiorentina a ‘dream’ but admitted that he is being stifled as a second striker.
Chiesa continues to be linked with big moves away but was born and bred in Florence, and he spoke of his pride at turning out for his hometown club.
“I still have a lot to learn from the best players like Ribery. I can only learn more and more,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“Seeing Sousa, the coach who gave me my Serie A debut, again was emotional. I’ll forever thank him.
“He gave me the opportunity to make my dream come true. I’m working to improve myself because he took the risk of giving me my debut on the first day of the season against Juventus: I’ll dedicate every improvement I make to him.
“When I was at Settignanese, my dream was to play for the Fiorentina youth team. I wanted to start my career with the Viola jersey.
“Florence became home, I went to primary school here. It represents my dream come true, what I wanted as a child.”
The 22-year-old is a right winger by trade but has spent the season playing up top for the Viola, and he confessed to doubts about his change of role.
“I’ve played more as a second striker this season because the coach wanted that. If they move me out to the wing, I could help my team to the fullest.
“As for playing on the left, I still have to improve on getting into the box and shooting. I’m more used to playing on the right.”
