Russia defender Andrey Semyonov said on Thursday that no one in his team was paying attention to the World Cup top scorers' race between his fellow countryman Denis Cheryshev and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo emerged as an early front-runner for the Golden Boot award for most goals scored at the World Cup after netting his fourth goal of the tournament in Portugal's 1-0 victory over Morocco on Wednesday. Cheryshev and Spain forward Diego Costa have scored three goals apiece so far.
"My job is to train. I am ready to help the team. There are, of course, jokes about it but we should not pay attention to that. The most important thing for us is to continue winning and go as far as we can," Semyonov told journalists.
Russia have qualified for the World Cup knockout stage for the first time after defeating Saudi Arabia 5-0 in the opening game of the tournament on June 14 and beating Egypt 3-1 on Tuesday.
