The Algerian derby in Group B of the CAF Champions League on Tuesday night went the way of MC Alger, who claimed a narrow 1-0 away win over ES Setif.
The result at the Stade du 8 Mei 1945 in Setif sees Mouloudia rise to second on the log on four points, behind DR Congo giants TP Mazembe, who beat Difaa El Jadidi in Morocco for their second win of the group stage. Setif remain bottom on zero points.
The derby clash between the two Ligue 1 sides was unsurprisingly a tense and tight affair, with the deadlock only broken in the 89th minute when MCA midfielder Amir Karaoui found the back of the net.
MCA’s next African assignment is a tough match away to leaders TP Mazembe in mid-July, while Setif will face a must-win clash at home to Difaa.
