With the World Cup fast approaching, national teams are starting to roll out their rosters for the big tournament in Russia. FIFA has set a June 4 deadline for teams to submit their final squads, so these should be considered provisional until then. This list will be updated as the rosters are announced. (If a team isn’t listed, it has yet to reveal its roster).
Main takeaways:
- England hasn’t released its preliminary squad yet, but the BBC has reported that Joe Hart and Jack Wilshere will not be on the 23-man squad. Hart was England’s first-choice goalkeeper in the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016. Wilshere, a midfielder, also played on the Euro 2016 squad.
- Mario Gotze is not on Germany’s preliminary squad. Gotze scored the winning goal of the 2014 World Cup final against Argentina.
- Argentina did not select Carlos Tevez, who last played for his country in 2015. Tevez said he “will watch the World Cup on TV.”
- Rafael Marquez was included in Mexico’s preliminary squad. The 39-year-old defender is trying to appear in his fifth World Cup.
- Brazil’s Dani Alves, France’s Laurent Koscielny and England’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will miss the tournament with injuries.
- Neymar is on Brazil’s 23-man roster, despite having not played since February because of an ankle injury.
