Antoine Griezmann has signed a new contract with Atletico Madrid which will keep him at the club until 2022.

The French forward was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United until Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban was upheld by CAS. Griezmann then decided that he would stay at the club, saying that it would be a “dirty move” to leave.
After the sanction made by CAS, Griezmann said: “The sanction of the CAS has fallen. Atletico can not recruit. With my sports adviser, Eric Olhats, we decided to stay. It’s a hard time for the club. It would be a blow to go now. We talked to the club and we will be back for next season.”
And now the 26-year old has extended his contract with Atletico and will earn a salary of £235,000 a week. However, Griezmann could still move to England when his club’s transfer ban ends next summer.
According to reports, his release clause will remain at £88 million. And Manchester United will be able to get him at the same cost as before his extension if they decide to renew their interest in Griezmann.
Jose Mourinho is a keen admirer of the French international and wanted to bring him to Old Trafford this summer. However United have now turned their attention to Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata and Torino striker Andrea Belotti.
Griezmann has scored 83 goals in 160 appearances for Atletico Madrid since joining 3 years ago. He has criticized the club’s ambition in the past, but now will have to stay at Atletico for at least one more year before he can move to Manchester United or another big club.
