USMNT’s Howard will miss Costa Rica clash, could miss months
Already needing a result on Tuesday night, the U.S. Men’s National Team will be without one of its elder statesman against Costa Rica.
Goalkeeper Tim Howard has returned to club side Colorado Rapids after sustaining an abductor injury during Friday night’s 2-1 loss against Mexico. According to ESPN FC, Howard could miss “months, not weeks,” and he may need surgery which would rule out the 37-year-old for the Rapids’ MLS playoff run.
Howard suffered the injury while taking a goal kick during the first half and was replaced by Middlesbrough shot-stopper Brad Guzan in the 40th minute.
The USMNT will have three active keepers heading into the Costa Rica match, with William Yarbrough and Ethan Horvath backing up Guzan.
The Rapids will face the Seattle Sounders in the Western Conference final, with the first leg taking place on November 22 and the return leg following five days later.
