LC: Campeão europeu Liverpool sai derrotado de Madrid, Dortmund bate PSG

O campeão europeu Liverpool saiu hoje derrotado (1-0) do reduto do Atlético de Madrid, enquanto o Borussia Dortmund venceu (2-1) o Paris Saint-Germain, em jogos da primeira mão dos oitavos de final da Liga dos Campeões.

Privados do internacional português João Félix, devido a lesão, os ‘colchoneros’ fizeram o único golo do jogo logo aos quatro minutos, por intermédio do médio espanhol Saúl Ñiguez, num lance de bola parada, em que beneficiou de um ressalto no pé de Fabinho para bater o guarda-redes brasileiro Alisson.

Os ‘reds’, orientados pelo alemão Jurgen Klopp, não perdiam em jogos oficiais desde o dia 17 de dezembro, quando foram derrotados em Birmingham, pelo Aston Villa, em jogo dos quartos de final da Taça da Liga inglesa, embora tenham apresentado uma equipa de reservas. Desde então, somaram 14 jogos sem perder em todas as competições.

A partida da segunda mão está agendada para o dia 11 de março, em Anfield.

Em solo germânico, no Estádio Signal Iduna Park, os anfitriões Borussia Dortmund, com o internacional português Raphael Guerreiro entre os titulares, receberam e venceram o PSG, com o ponta de lança norueguês Erling Haaland a ser a figura da partida.

O ex-avançado do Salzburgo, que se tornou no primeiro jogador de sempre a jogar por dois clubes diferentes na mesma edição da ‘Champions’, depois da mudança da regra aprovada pela UEFA, anotou dois golos decisivos, já na segunda parte, aos 69 e 77 minutos, perante um conjunto parisiense que foi inferior, tendo reduzido, pelo meio, através do brasileiro Neymar (75).

Com os dois golos apontados hoje, o ponta de lança nórdico ‘colou-se’ ao polaco Robert Lewandowski no topo dos melhores marcadores desta edição da competição, ambos com 10.

Dortmund e Paris Saint-Germain voltam a encontrar-se no dia 11 de março, no Estádio Parque dos Príncipes, em Paris, num jogo em que os franceses não vão poder contar com os castigados Marco Verratti e Thomas Meunier.

Atalanta do have a fantastic recent record at home, but it needs to be taken into account that this game will be at a different stadium. Likely, while the upper hand does go to the hosts Atalanta, their counterparts cannot be considered to be underdogs.

Atalanta were on the road for their last game in the group stage. The team had been pitted against Shakhtar Donetsk, and in spite of being away from home, they recorded a 0-3 win.

It was a testament to the form Atalanta have been in, especially since December. In fact, in the past three months, they have lost just once at home. And disregarding another draw, they have won all of their match-ups at home since the last week of November.

At present, Atalanta are in a strong position to qualify for the Champions League from the Serie A. They have been the best in Italy, counting out the three titans – Juventus, Inter Milan, and Lazio.

With a six-point lead at the fourth spot, and the fifth-placed Roma on a three-game losing run in the league, a CL ticket seems inevitable for Atalanta.

Meanwhile, Valencia recorded a surprise 0-1 win on the road, against Ajax, in their last group stage game. The Dutch squad had impressed the world with a deep run into the CL semis the last season, and considering their form, they were expected to easily make it to the knockouts.

However, the loss inflicted by Valencia took Ajax out, and gave loads of confidence to the Spanish side.

In the past three months, Atalanta have lost just thrice, and two of those defeats had come on the road. Currently, they are on a three-match winning run, and a five-match unbeaten streak (of which 4 were wins). At home, they had won six of their previous eight appearances, and stood invincible in seven of those matches. 

Keep note that, in the process, they had scored a total of 26 goals from these eight match-ups, including a 5-0 victory against AC Milan, and a 2-1 win triumph over Roma. 

On the other hand, Valencia have a total of four wins since mid-December, and two of those had come against Spanish relegation-battlers, and one against a lower-division team in the Copa del Rey. In addition, they were also winless in nine of their previous thirteen road trips as well.

As such, expect the ambitious Atalanta to deliver a hard-fought win this Wednesday. However, do note that is the knockouts of the CL, and Valencia will be fighting for their lives as well. Moreover, Valencia had scored goals in 23 of their last 25 overall games, and in 24 of their prior 26 away fixtures.

Finally, the Italian squad had failed to keep a clean sheet in seven of their prior eight fixtures, and in 14 of their preceding 17 home matches. Considering these findings, count on the two teams to score goals in practically their most important match of the season so far.

Tottenham had taken a hike to Germany to meet Bayern Munich in  their last group-stage game. In what was an expected result, the Bavarians recorded a 3-1 win at home. Mourinho’s boys did try their best to make a comeback, but at the Allianz Arena, it was just too big of a task.

Still, too much cannot be read into the defeat, as Spurs were still in a period of turmoil at that time, and Bayern was just out of their league then. As of now, Mourinho has slowly brought back Tottenham to form.

Meanwhile, Leipzig too were on the road, against Lyon. The match ended with a 2-2 scoreline, but it must have felt as if a loss for the visitors. They were ahead 0-2 at half time, only for them to concede two late goals in the latter half.

The frailties in Leipzig defense (especially in case of road fixtures) was on display against Lyon. Against the English opposition, they can expect even better attacks, and Leipzig will have to be vigilant at the back.

First of all, Tottenham are at home, and are being led by the vindictive Jose Mourinho, who has so many things to prove to his critics. We can surely expect a top-notch performance from his team. 

In addition, the Spurs have been a major presence in the PL for quite a long time, and is known, the English top flight is considered to be miles ahead in terms of quality, than their German counterparts.

Moreover, Spurs are on a three-match winning run, and a seven-game unbeaten streak. At home, they won the last four fixtures on the trot, and recorded wins in eight of the last ten as well. On the other hand, Leipzig were winless in four of their former five overall games, and are on a run of four winless matches on the road.

Likely, we can expect Tottenham to do their best on the pitch, and avoid a loss at the least. However, do note that they had failed to keep clean sheets in 13 of their last 15 overall match-ups, and in 12 of their prior 15 appearances at home.

Meanwhile, Leipzig had scored three or more goals in 11 of their preceding 18 games, and scored twice or more in 17 of their previous 23 trips on the road. Taking these observations into account, we can expect both these squads to find the back of the net in this competitive fixture.

Haland mostruoso: Borussia Dortmund batte PSG 2-1

Nel match valevole per l'andata degli ottavi di finale della Champions League 2019/2020 il Borussia Dortmund batte il PSG 2-1 vincendo il primo atto. Succede tutto nella seconda frazione con i padroni di casa che esultano grazie alla doppietta di uno strepitoso Haland mentre ai francesi non basta il momentaneo pareggio di Neymar. Successo meritato e di fondamentale importanza per la squadra giallo-nera che difenderà il vantaggio al Parco dei Principi nel match di ritorno che si giocherà l'11 marzo.

IL RACCONTO DEL MATCH

Per quanto concerne il capitolo formazioni 3-4-3 per il Borussia Dortmund con il tridente offensivo composto da Sancho, Haland e Hazard mentre il PSG risponde col 4-3-3 ed il trio d'attacco formato da Di Maria, Mbappé e Neymar. 

Canovaccio tattico completamente diverso rispetto alle attese con le due squadre molto corte e compatte sul rettangolo di gioco, sfida molto tattica. Il primo squillo è di marca parigina con una punizione dal limite di Neymar che termina fuori di pochissimo. Al 28' la risposta del Borussia con Sancho che rientra sul destro a calcia ma Navas se la cava in bello stile. Col passare dei minuti i padroni di casa alzando i giri del motore e al 35' sfiorano ancora il vantaggio con Haland che punta la porta e calcia ma la sfera si perde sull'esterno della rete. Una prima frazione molto combattuta e poco spettacolare termina senza reti e con poche emozioni.

Match bloccato e poco spettacolare anche nel primo quarto della seconda frazione con le due squadre statiche e molto attente a non scoprirsi. Il primo sussulto della ripresa arriva al 66' e lo crea il PSG con una bella azione in velocità che porta al tiro Mbappè ma il destro del francese viene respinto da Burki. Dal 69' in poi succede di tutto con il Borussia che la sblocca con il solito Haland, abile a sfruttare un rimpallo in area insaccando da pochi passi, 1-0. Reazione immediata del PSG che al 76' pareggia con uno slalom gigante di Mbappè che salta tre avversari e accomoda per Neymar che a porta vuota non fallisce, 1-1. La gioia dei francesi dura pochissimo perché un minuto più tardi i padroni di casa tornano in vantaggio con un missile di Haland che incenerisce Navas dai 20 metri.

Match d'un tratto folle con i parigini che al minuto 82 sfiorano il pari con un'azione confusionaria che porta al tiro Neymar ma la conclusione del brasiliano scheggia il palo. Tuchel rinuncia incredibilmente a Cavani e Icardi ed il Borussia non corre rischi fino alla fine. Al Signal Iduna Park il Dortmund fa suo il match d'andata battendo il PSG 2-1 grazie alla doppietta di uno strepitoso Haland. 

L'Atletico sorprende il Liverpool 1-0 e tutto rimandato ad Anfield

Ottavi di Champions League che vedono al Wanda Metropolitano la sfida di vertice tra Atletico e Liverpool. Le due squadre, secondi gli spagnoli nel gruppo della Juventus e inglesi primi in quello del Napoli, si affrontano per un ottavo di finale davvero di alto livello. Spagnoli in crisi di risultati e gioco, mentre Reds quasi campioni in Premier e con la fame di bissare in Europa. Correa e Morata in attacco con Koke e Saul a cercare le geometrie a centrocampo in casa Colchoneros, mentre Liverpool confermato con il tridente delle meraviglie.

CRONACA DELLA PARTITA

Primo tempo che parte a ritmi davvero alti con due squadre che vogliono soprattutto vincere. Al 4' padroni di casa in vantaggio: corner in area di Koke, tocco maldestro di Fabinho e Saul mette solo il tap in e palla in rete. Il Liverpool sembra scosso e al 20' Lodi palla tesa per Morata, ma Robertson salva tutto in spaccata. Al 26' gol annullato a Salah: Atletico vicino al gol con Morata, Alisson salva e contropiede Reds inglese dal portiere ex Roma, ma Firmino in fuorigioco rende vano tutto il gol di Salah essendo in fuorigioco netto e contribuendo all'azione. Al 35' botta improvvisa di Salah e Felipe si immola di testa. Alexander-Arnold crossa in modo pericoloso, ma non arriva nessun compagno. Un buonissimo Atletico nella prima frazione, ma con i Reds non c'è da stare tranquilli.

Nella ripresa, inizio di monologo Liverpool con al 53' Salah viene pescato da Gomez, ma l'egiziano sbaglia di testa. Al  68'  Lodi serve Morata, ma l'attaccante ex Juve non trova il pallone. Al 71' Lodi tenta il tiro a girare, ma che esce di poco con Alisson sulla traiettoria. Al 73' Origi assist per Henderson che sfiora il pareggio in acrobazia. Gara che rimane aperta in vista del ritorno, due squadre che possono ancora dimostrare di essere molto protagoniste della competizione. Il Liverpool in terra di casa può fare molto bene, gli spagnoli dovranno essere furbi e resistere al pressing e alla battaglia.

Postura ofensiva e corajosa: a receita de Lucien Favre na vitória do Dortmund sobre o PSG

Óbvio que a vaga nas quartas da Champions League ainda não está nas mãos do Borussia Dortmund, mas a vitória sobre o PSG por 2 a 1 na Alemanha aconteceu graças ao espírito ofensivo e não covarde do treinador Lucien Favre. O modelo de jogo frente ao alemão Thomas Tuchel, técnico do Paris, sufocou o trabalho do meio de campo francês.

Aos 62 anos, o comandante suíço deixa Neymar e companhia com dor de cabeça para a volta. Além de ter que reverter a vantagem, o Paris Saint-Germain também precisa burlar a desconfiança e incerteza que paira em parte da torcida parisiense.

Todo o estilo ofensivo do BVB fez com que Erling Braut Haaland pudesse se consagrar mais uma vez, fazendo dois gols. E no primeiro tempo, os aurinegros ainda poderiam ter aproveitado ao menos três bons contra-ataques. Com esses adereços, Favre deve usar essa vitória como modelo para a sequência da atual temporada, tanto na Bundesliga quanto na Liga dos Campeões.

Can, Witsel, Reus, Sancho e Haaland ainda tiveram auxílio de Hakimi para armar jogadas de ataque. O ponto fraco do BVB novamente se mostra na defesa, pois Hummels não esteve num dia bom para si. Mas ao todo, a atuação foi digna de elogios:

"Foi um jogo muito bom de todos em campo. Acima de tudo, defendemos extremamente bem. Vai ser extremamente difícil em Paris, mas podemos fazer isso", disse Emre Can já projetando a volta.

"Eu trabalho duro. Tem que continuar assim. Estou aproveitando o momento agora. Mas temos que nos desenvolver ainda mais", avaliou Erling Haaland sobre o potencial do Borussia Dortmund.

"É difícil destacar um ou outro jogador, foi a equipe que deu tudo, foi uma vitória da equipe. Pensávamos que o PSG ia jogar em 4-1-4-1 ou em 4-4-2, mas conseguimos nos adaptar. Vamos ter de jogar como hoje ou ainda melhor. Jogamos bem, mas no Parc des Princes vão ser precisos 90 ou 95 minutos muito compactos, com muita inteligência. Queríamos uma oportunidade e temos uma oportunidade."

Cincinnnati manager Jans resigns after MLS investigates racist remark

Dutchman Ron Jans has resigned his position as manager of MLS side FC Cincinnati in the wake of a league investigation into an alleged racist remark, the club announced Tuesday.

Jans departs only 12 days before the team opens its 2020 campaign March 1 at the New York Red Bulls.

FC Cincinnati said the 61-year-old former manager of such Dutch clubs as Groningen and Zwolle was leaving as an MLS investigation was progressing after an MLS Players Association complaint of "extremely inappropriate comments."

"As Major League Soccer's investigation unfolded and some themes emerged, Ron offered his resignation and we agreed that it was the best course of action for everyone involved with FC Cincinnati," club president Jeff Berding said in a statement.

"We place the utmost importance on a strong culture within our club, beginning in our locker room, and that every person connected with FC Cincinnati feels valued, respected and trusted.

"Racial and cultural diversity is a major part of what makes the game of soccer so special, and we place the highest priority on respecting every person involved in our game. This includes absolutely everyone associated with our club, from our locker room and front office, all the way through to our fans."

Jans, who stepped away from his coaching duties on Friday, went 1-5 with four drawn last year for FC Cincinnati after taking over the team last August following the firing of Alan Koch as manager last May.

Yoann Damet, who served as an interim manager last year before Jans was hired, will again serve as an interim head coach while FC Cincinnati general manager Gerard Nijkamp conducts a global search for a new coach.
