FSV Mainz will be desperate for victory when they travel to Olympiastadion to take on much improved Hertha in Saturday’s Bundesliga match.
Hertha Berlin vs FSV Mainz: Match Preview
Ten men Hertha BSC were beaten 3-2 by FC Schalke 04 after 120 minutes in one turbulent match where they held and dropped a 0-2 half time lead in spectacular fashion in the last 16 of the DFB-Pokal.
Under Jürgen Klinsmann, the Old Lady maintain their distance on the relegation dogfight as they currently sit at 13th, six points away from danger zone they’ve occupied not long ago and encouraged and strengthened in the transfer market, will continue their push for the top half.
But as their overall condition improves, Die Alte Dame’s home form remain locked in post-October slump mode, with Berlin-based side winning just one of last four home outings though, in their defense, schedule was unforgiving, facing one CL contender after another.
Mistake-ridden first half costs Mainz against Bayern as The Zerofivers went 3-0 down in the first half hours and suffered their third loss in three games in the Ruckrunde last Saturday.
Bayern made for fourteenth defeat of the year (and fourth consecutive) for Achim Beierlorzer and his men as they continue to flirt with relegation places but remaining just above the line at 15th, one point off Werder Bremen and the abyss.
With two of their last three victories being on the road, with latest one dating back in December, one can be generous and showcase it as an improvement, but the truth is, Mainz are in trouble.
Karim Rekik, Vladimir Darida and Thomas Kraft are questionable for Klinsmann’s side but they’ll most likely be at their full strength come Saturday.
Leandro Martins, Edimilson Fernandes and Stefan Bell are sure absentees for troubled Mainz.

Hertha Berlin vs FSV Mainz: Prediction
Some really interesting additions to their first team and recent upheaval are more than enough for me to back Klinsmann and his boys to snap out of their winless streak in their home ground. Mainz are mess right now and I don’t trust they’re getting anything from Berlin.
With a similar set of mind, I doubt we’ll see unusual scoreline here, with Hertha being rigid, really tough to break and Mainz being utterly hopeless in the final third, which lines up well with h2h history of the two.
