Manchester City are considering a move for Tottenham target Matthijs de Ligt, according to the Guardian.
The Ajax defender is believed to be one of Spurs’ top transfer targets as Mauricio Pochettino aims to freshen up his squad.
Since breaking into the Ajax team at the age of 16, De Ligt has been a sensation in the Eredivisie – he is already a full Netherlands international.
Tottenham are in need of a centre-back to replace Toby Alderweireld, who is expected to leave this summer after failing to agree terms on a new contract earlier this year.
De Ligt is rated among the best young defenders in Europe and would be the ideal replacement.
However, the Guardian claims Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is considering a move for the teenager as a long-term replacement for Vincent Kompany.
If both clubs come in for him, De Ligt will have a big decision to make. On the one hand, he will be almost guaranteed success and a better salary at City.
But Spurs would be more likely to offer him immediate first-team football – whether that is his priority remains to be seen.
