Lazio will have an excellent chance to continue their slowly growing unbeaten streak as they travel to face a Palermo side without a win in nearly two months.

October 2nd. That was the last time the Rosanero managed to get even a point from a match, when they drew Sampdoria 1-1. Since then, Palermo have gone on to lose their past six games, including a recent 3-1 reversal to Bologna. Oddly enough, they have managed to score in every single one of these losses but can’t get over the finish line.

Against Torino, they took an early lead, only to ship four goals. In their tie with Udinese, they again went ahead and conceded three times without reply. The same happened against Bologna, and they now will have to pick themselves up yet again as they welcome a Lazio side who have been pretty impressive this term.

Palermo’s form is quite curious as the floundering Rosanero fare better off on the road than they do at home. It’s surprising that current coach Roberto De Zerbi is still on the bench, especially given the notoriously impatient owner Maurizio Zamparini’s tendency to fire several managers throughout the course of a season, but perhaps the easily-frustrated president has just decided to try to weather the storm.

As for Lazio, the Biancocelesti have been quite excellent under Simone Inzaghi. They have made it clear that they are pushing for a European football spot, and with the team in the form they are in right now, it may be more than the Europa League they are aiming for. Currently, Lazio find themselves within a point of AC Milan and city rivals Roma after overcoming Genoa, and could eclipse these two sides with a road win in the first game taking place on Sunday.

Ilija Nestorovski has been scoring for Palermo – in fact, he’s netted in the team’s last four games. Unfortunately, it was all in vain as his solitary effort was not enough to prevent the Rosanero from losing all of those matches. To make matters worse, Palermo will be missing a crop of players due to injury. Meanwhile, although Lazio will have to make do without first-choice shot-stopper Federico Marchetti, the Biancocelesti nonetheless should be able to take advantage of their struggling opponents to pick up another three points.

Given that Palermo have managed to score in their past couple of games and Lazio will be fielding their second-choice goalie, the Rosanero may be able to nick a goal, but it will not likely be enough to prevent the Aquile from soaring to victory.
