Chelsea look to continue strengthening their squad as they look at German starlet Kai Havertz.
In 2019, Chelsea legend Frank Lampard took over the reign’s following the departure of the Italian Maurizio Sarri. Who not only took over a Hazard-less squad but a club with a transfer ban.
The club turned to its well funded youth system to bolster the squad with the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori who went on to make a huge impression.
However, with the season set to be resumed following the pandemic and the lifted transfer ban, owner Roman Abramovich is set to dig deep into his pockets in order to restore his beloved Blues to greatness.
With Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech set to join the blues on July 1st, following his move from Dutch champions Ajax. As well as the German starlight Timo Werner looking though, he will be swapping Leipzig for London after Chelsea look to activate the £54 million pound release clause.
As Chelsea look to strengthen their attack even more, they set their sights on Werner’s German international teammate Kai Havertz.
Havertz has recently become the youngest player in Bundesliga history to score 35 goals before the age of 21. This form of goalscoring has landed him interest from European Giants with the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester United looking to land the 20-year olds signature.
The young German international has made 38 appearances in all competitions in the 2019/2020 season scoring 15 goals and providing 8 assists for Leverkusen. With more recent games being deployed as a centre forward. Since the return of the topflight football in Germany, Havertz has recorded five goals in 4 games.
Chelsea have been heavily linked with the wonderkid but with the price tag of around £70 million is he the Pensioners missing link?
As this season has progressed, Blues boss Frank Lampard has varied the starting 11 formation with a mixed success.
At the Bay Arena, Leverkusen, used Havertz as a midfield CAM or as a false 9 centre forward which allowed for great tactical versatility which would benefit the likes of Lampard’s’ blues in future fixtures.
He is also a proven goal scorer, recording goals with both feet and even pops up with the occasional header proving his worth in any given team. For a team like Chelsea, who created the fourth most chances this season but failed to convert several of the chances. Another proven goal scorer could be the answer.
In Contrast to above, with the incoming players of Ziyech and Werner and the likes of Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi back to full fitness the squad is very deep in attacking positions which would limit players match time but create exceptional competition.
If, Havertz makes the move to the bridge it would be the likes of Mount to drop to the bench, a player who has had an exceptional season with 6 goals and 4 assists and even then he was in and out the side through a massively rotating midfield.
However, with Jorginho being linked with a move away from the London club, the German international would be the perfect replacement to fill the midfield gap. As N'Golo Kanté or Billy Gilmour can play that defensive role.
Havertz, would improve any Premier League team but Chelsea need to strengthen in other areas before perusing the young attacking sensation just because the club financially can approve it.
