Watford's Deeney reveals abuse after expressing virus fears

Watford captain Troy Deeney has revealed that people have told him they want his baby son to contract coronavirus after he chose not to return to training at the Premier League club.

Deeney has been absent from training since Watford and other Premier League clubs returned to non-contact sessions last week.

The forward's concerns over potentially passing on COVID-19 to his five-month-old son, who has had breathing difficulties, came even before team-mate Adrian Mariappa and two other Hornets staff tested positive.

But the 31-year-old found himself and his family in the firing line during Mental Health Awareness week last week.

"I saw some comments in regards to my son, people saying: 'I hope your son gets corona'," Deeney told CNN Sport.

"That's the hard part for me. If you respond to that, people then go: 'Ah, we've got him' and they keep doing it."

He added: "In a time where it's all about mental health and everyone says 'speak up, speak out, please speak', (Newcastle's) Danny Rose spoke out... and I spoke out and we just get absolutely hammered and battered for it.

"So people see that and go 'woah' and it's not just us that gets it, the missus gets direct messages and you'll be walking down the street and people will be like: 'Oh, I'm at work, you go back to work'."

Premier League clubs have voted unanimously for a return to contact training following government approval, with that step due to take place this week.

Deeney is understood to be due to resume training next week.

CNN reported he had been speaking to England's deputy chief medical officer, Jonathan Van-Tam, about the statistics showing people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds are disproportionately affected by coronavirus.

"He's been doing very, very good research and there is a lot of goodwill on his part to tell me, ultimately, that I'm going to be looked after as best as they can and, ultimately, there is going to be some form of risk for all of us going back to work," Deeney said.

"Lockdown and the social-distancing measures coming down mean people will still always have risk."

Ações de marketing arrecadam mais de R$ 50 mil e Santa encontra via para driblar crise

Departamento se mobilizou para captar novas receitas em meio à queda de receitas e encontrou uma via alternativa para honrar com os compromissos

Nesta crise provocada pelo novo coronavírus, o marketing do Santa Cruz transformou-se em uma peça chave para minimizar os impactos financeiros da pandemia. Encabeçando campanhas com apoio da torcida para driblar as dificuldades e honrar com o salário dos funcionários, o Tricolor conseguiu embolsar, até agora, mais de R$ 50 mil. Uma alternativa que vem dando mais que certo. 

O primeiro projeto aconteceu ainda no início da pandemia: a confecção de máscaras personalizadas do Santa Cruz. Com produção contínua e sucesso na comercialização, mais de R$ 20 mil foram amealhados no primeiro lançamento e a segunda edição do produto já está à venda para a torcida adquirir.  

Logo depois, o departamento de marketing abriu uma bilheteria virtual para reviver a experiência de inauguração do Arruda, no amistoso contra o Flamengo, em junho de 1972. Na campanha, o Santa Cruz garantiu mais R$ 17 mil. 

E, agora, a Cobra Coral lançou mais duas campanhas: a venda de ingressos solidários para a reprise do jogo do acesso à Série A, contra a Portuguesa, em 2005. À parte, também disponibilizou a venda para o jogo do acesso à Série B contra o Betim, em 2013, mas apenas o duelo contra a Lusa será transmitido pela Rede Globo, no próximo domingo (31).  

 

O vice presidente de marketing do Tricolor do Arruda, Guilherme Leite, à Rádio Clube, do Diario de Pernambuco, agradeceu o apoio da torcida do Santa Cruz em entender o momento de dificuldade. Além disso, o dirigente tricolor adiantou que outras ações estão sendo pensadas e nos próximos meses serão divulgadas.  

“A gente espera, com outros projetos que planejamos, fazer o máximo para deixar todas as folhas em dia. As máscaras ajudaram bastante, vendemos mais de 2.500 kits. Juntando com o dinheiro dos sócios e com a ação do estádio lotado, esperamos chegar próximo de quitar os vencimentos. Estamos preparando um projeto novo, que o torcedor vai gostar, atrelado a alguns lançamentos. Isso vai acontecer do meio para o final de junho, porque tem o tempo de produção”, revelou Guilherme Leite.

MLS franchises can train small groups during a coronavirus pandemic

Training sessions must comply with all health and safety protocols

On Thursday (28th), Major League Soccer (MLS) released the teams to conduct training sessions with their soccer players in the external structures of the clubs in small groups. However, MLS franchises will be required to comply with all health and safety protocols.

In a press release, Major League Soccer said that this measure provides an opportunity for athletes to practice physical activities as long as they respect the distance between them. See all protocols that were imposed on teams in detail:

- Clubs must utilize outdoor fields as indoor training facilities remain closed to all players with the exception of those requiring medical treatment or rehabilitation, under the direction of the team medical staff, that cannot be performed from the safety of their residences.

- Clubs may divide each full field into a maximum of two equal halves and may assign a group of players to each full or half field.

- Clubs may clearly define up to six zones per half field, spaced at least 10 feet apart. Only one player may be in a zone at any given time in order to maintain physical distancing standards throughout the session. For clarity, a maximum of six players may be assigned to a single group with each player accommodated in a separate zone.

- During training sessions, players may switch zones within their own group only if another player is not currently in that zone and players must maintain a physical distance of at least 10 feet from all other players and coaches while moving between zones.

- Within a single group, players may pass the ball and shoot on goal; however, all training exercises must allow players to maintain a physical distance of at least 10 feet from one another.

- Players may only train with the other players within their own group and may not interact with other groups. While the groups may not be rearranged during a single training session, clubs may rearrange the combination of players in each group from session to session.

- Coaches and technical staff must wear a face mask at all times and may direct players from the perimeter of the field, never entering the field, while maintaining at least 10-feet of distance from other staff and players.

- Only approved equipment may be used during training session including balls; small and regular goals; rubber dots; small discs and cones; rebounders; rings; GPS Pods and personal equipment that is not shared between players. Mannequins, poles, bands, weights and ball machines may not be used.

- Goalkeepers may not spit on their gloves and must clean, disinfect and sanitize their gloves after each training.

According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the world registered about 5.8 million confirmed cases and approximately 360,000 deaths due to the new coronavirus. In addition, 2.4 million people have recovered from the disease. Regarding the number of infected, the United States (1 million and 700 thousand), Brazil (438,000) and Russia (379,000) remain at the top of the list. However, when we analyze the data regarding the deaths, this statistic changes. United States (102,000), United Kingdom (37,000) and Italy (33,000) are the first three countries with the highest number of deaths.

Смолов раскритиковал решение возобновить РПЛ

Форвард испанской «Сельты» Федор Смолов раскритиковал решение о возобновлении розыгрыша Российской премьер-лиги (РПЛ) в конце июня. Об этом игрок рассказал на YouTube-канале журналиста Василия Уткина.

По мнению игрока, его соотечественники руководствовались примером других европейских стран, в которых, в отличие от России, наблюдается снижение числа инфицированных коронавирусом. В связи с этим решение о возобновлении российского первенства Смолов посчитал поспешным.

Розыгрыш Тинькофф РПЛ был приостановлен в середине марта из-за пандемии коронавируса. Возобновление чемпионата запланировано на 21 июня. 16 мая после паузы стартовала немецкая Бундеслига. Ряд других европейских первенств, включая чемпионат Испании, планируется начать в июне.

Смолов, права на которого принадлежат московскому «Локомотиву», перешел в «Сельту» на правах аренды в конце января 2020 года. В нынешнем сезоне россиянин провел шесть матчей за клуб, в которых отметился одним забитым мячом. Клуб из Виго рассчитывает сохранить игрока как минимум до конца сезона, который закончится позже запланированного срока.

China-S. Korea women's Olympic football qualifier postponed to February 2021

The Chinese women's football team's Olympic qualification playoffs against South Korea have been postponed to February 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Asian Football Confederation now plans for the two legs to be played on February 19 and February 24 next year, without announcing venues.

"The latest decision was confirmed to allow both member associations to have sufficient preparation time considering the challenging and unprecedented circumstances brought about by the pandemic," the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) said.

The winners of the two-legged tie will join group leader Australia to advance to Tokyo Olympics.

The Chinese team is now training in Suzhou, east China's Jiangsu Province. 

South Korea are 20th in the FIFA world rankings, five places below China.

Originally scheduled for March, the ill-fated games have been delayed several times amid the pandemic.

Hosts Japan, four-time winners United States, Brazil, New Zealand, Britain, Netherlands, Sweden, Canada, and Zambia have qualified for next year's Olympics Games.

The 12-team women's tournament is scheduled to start in Japan ahead of the Olympic opening ceremony on July 23, 2021.

Japan SOCCER/ Report: J.League set to restart without fans

Japan’s top-flight soccer league is ready to resume its season within weeks of the country’s pro baseball league starting play.

The J.League is expected to officially announce its plans on Friday.

A local news agency reported that league matches will resume on June 27 or July 4. The agency offered the dates and cited unnamed sources.

The resumption will be without fans. That is also the plan when baseball begins play on June 19.

Japan’s two big sports leagues are able to resume after Prime Minister Shinzo Abe lifted a state of emergency on Monday.

The J.League started its season on Feb. 21 but was forced to stop play a few days later. Baseball’s regular season had not yet begun.

The news agency reported the J.League will try to limit travel, with plans for teams in the same geographical region playing each other.
