Atlanta United 0, New York Red Bulls 1 | MLS is Back Tournament Match Recap

The New York Red Bulls picked up a huge result to open Group E play against Atlanta United on Saturday, taking a 1-0 victory courtesy of an early goal from Florian Valot and a highlight-reel late save from goalkeeper David Jensen.

Valot got RBNY off to a dream start just four minutes into the match, collecting a brilliant long ball from Kaku and finding himself on a breakaway against Atlanta goalkeeper Brad Guzan before coolly slotting home the finish.

RBNY nearly doubled that advantage in the 25th minute off a cross from Kyle Duncan that found Daniel Royer crashing the back post completely unmarked, but Guzan made the reaction save to keep Atlanta within one goal.

Atlanta came inches from getting an equalizer from George Bello in the 41st minute, as the Homegrown left back unleashed a laser shot on goal from a difficult angle that he placed expertly over Jensen, only to see it hit the crossbar.

RBNY had a handful of chances to extend the lead in the second half, but couldn't quite capitalize, thanks in part to some excellent goalkeeping from Guzan. The Five Stripes nearly found the equalizer at the death, but a snap header from Adam Jahn was denied by a phenomenal sprawling save from Jensen, allowing RBNY to see out the 1-0 result.

Guzan has a solid shout even in a losing effort, but scoring the game-winner is always a good way to get the honors. Valot gets the nod for this one.

Three Things

• THE BIG PICTURE: RBNY talked about how excited they were to resume play against Atlanta leading up to the match, and they played like it, coming out firing and looking the sharper side for much of the night. It's a huge result for Chris Armas and Co. On the other side, it's an inauspicious start to tournament play for Atlanta, but we'll hold off on formulating any rash conclusions until they log more games.
• MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Valot's tally was the only goal and stood as the game-winner, making it the easy choice anyway, but spare a thought for that ball from Kaku. That's a world-class dime if there ever was one.
• YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED: There are many new broadcast wrinkles being introduced during the tournament, with a great glimpse of one of them coming in this contest as nearby cameras provided an inside look at Atlanta United head coach Frank de Boer giving instructions during a hydration break in the first half.

Seattle Sounders 0, San Jose Earthquakes 0 | MLS is Back Tournament Match Recap

It wasn't for lack of chances, but the San Jose Earthquakes and Seattle Sounders finished their Group B opener at the MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando in a 0-0 deadlock on Friday.

San Jose dominated possession throughout the first half, and found a handful good looks on goal, but either saw them trickle wide or get denied by Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei each time. Seattle, meanwhile, had perhaps its best look of the first half in the 28th minute when midfielder Cristian Roldan got behind the Quakes' back line and fired a shot that was saved by San Jose 'keeper Daniel Vega, who put in a solid overall performance of his own between the posts.

San Jose nearly broke through in the 70th minute off a distance shot from Jackson Yueill that took a deflection and appeared bound for goal, but Frei came through again with a highlight-reel diving save to preserve the scoreless deadlock.

Seattle nearly found a late go-ahead goal in the 84th minute after Raul Ruidaz found himself with an open look off a cross from Kelvin Leerdam, but the Peruvian couldn't quite get his shot past a charging Vega, and the match finished scoreless.

Seattle very well could have found themselves taking no points in this one if not for Frei's heroics. The veteran goalkeeper has long been one of the steadiest in MLS, and put in another standout shift in his team's first game back.

Three Things

• THE BIG PICTURE: The Quakes were the underdog coming into the match, and have plenty of positives to build on, but they'll likely feel disappointed not to have taken all three points given how they dictated most of the game. Seattle absorbed a lot of pressure, but they had their chances too, so the hope will be the finishing touch will come with time as they knock off the rust.
• MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Frei's 70th-minute denial on Yueill was one of the best highlights of the match, and might have rescued Seattle from opening tournament play with a disappointing defeat.
• YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED: There have now been four games since MLS resumed, none of which have featured a goal in the first half, with Orlando City SC the only team scoring more than once. It's understandable, considering the lengthy layoff as teams try to reestablish their fitness and sharpness, so expect that trend to change as we get deeper into the tournament.

Montreal Impact 0, New England Revolution 1 | MLS is Back Tournament Match Recap

Gustavo Bou smashed a half-volley past Clement Diop, and a dominant New England Revolution side overcame some wastefulness in the final third to defeat the Montreal Impact 1-0 in both teams' Group C opener of the MLS is Back Tournament on Thursday night.

Bou took Carles Gil's pass and cut back to elude Rod Fanni just inside the penalty area, then unleashed a vicious strike from just inside the 18 that left Diop little chance.

The Revolution outshot the Impact 19-7 and led 4-2 in efforts on target, but still required Matt Turner's exceptional save of Ballou Tabla's long-range effort in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time to keep their advantage.

The whistle blew shortly after the ensuing corner kick, ensuring 3 points for the Revs and revenge for a 2-1, season-opening defeat back in Montreal on Feb. 29

Bou was relentless all evening and might be frustrated he didn't have more to show for himself on the scoresheet, having missed a golden first-half chance and nearly setting up a second Revs goal with an 83rd-minute cross.

• THE BIG PICTURE: Rust is understandable, but this was easily the Impact's worst performance in six competitive games with Thierry Henry. The good news is they'll have nearly a full week's rest for their next game against rival Toronto FC, who will be facing a three-day turnaround.
• MOMENT OF THE MATCH: It's a good thing the net was there to stop Bou's blistering strike or else it might still be traveling. 
• YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED: Henry's kneeling in the coach's box in solidarity with Black Lives Matter was among the most discreet we've seen so far, and also among the most powerful.

FC Porto contrata avançado ao Botafogo: tudo fechado por Igor Cássio

O FC Porto tem tudo acertado com os representantes de Igor Cássio para a contratação do ainda avançado do Botafogo, confirmou o Maisfutebol junto de uma fonte próxima ao atleta.

De acordo com o apurado pelo nosso jornal, Igor Cássio (22 anos, 1,84 metros, 70 quilos) vai chegar ao FC Porto a custo zero, mantendo o Botafogo metade dos direitos económicos do ponta-de-lança. Numa primera fase, Igor Cássio deverá integrar o plantel da equipa B azul e branca. 

Os documentos para a rescisão contratual entre o Botafogo e Igor Cássio já foram assinados na sexta-feira. A ligação de Igor Cássio ao emblema da Estrela Solitária expirava em setembro e os seus representantes conseguiram antecipar esse final de acordo, para permitir a integração de Igor logo a partir do primeiro dia de pré-época no Olival. 

Segundo foi possível confirmar, a assinatura do contrato com o FC Porto está agendada já para segunda-feira. Igor Cássio rubricará uma ligação válida por três ou quatro temporadas.

Igor Cássio fez 22 jogos e três golos pela equipa principal do Botafogo. Formado inicialmente no Artsul FC, um pequeno emblema de Nova Iguaçu, Igor Cássio chegou ainda adolescente ao Bota e em 2017 conseguiu ser integrado no elenco principal. Uma grave lesão no joelho deixou-o sete meses parado e fora das opções de Jair Ventura.  

A melhor fase de Igor aconteceu entre outubro e novembro de 2019, quando foi utilizado em dez jogos do Brasileirão e marcou dois golos. Em 2020 arrancou o Campeonato Carioca, mas acabou por perder algum espaço com a chegada de Pedro Raúl, ex-avançado do Vitória de Guimarães. 

No início de junho, já com o nosso bem conhecido Paulo Autuori como treinador, Igor Cássio foi afastado dos trabalhos da equipa por não ter respeitado as regras de confinamento social. 

O próximo passo é a equipa B do FC Porto. 

New York City FC 0, Philadelphia Union 1 | MLS is Back Tournament Match Recap

In a battle between the two favorites of Group A at the MLS is Back Tournament, the Philadelphia Union edged past NYCFC 1-0 on Thursday morning to take a big step towards making their way to the knockout stage.

Alejandro Bedoya got the game's opening goal, a tidy finish from a tight angle. Sean Johnson got a hand to it but not enough to guide it wide. A few minutes later, Kacper Przybylko found the back of the net but the finish was correctly ruled offside. 

Then it was time for Andre Blake to come up big. In the 86th minute, the Union keeper made a sprawling save to deny Heber a late equalizer from close range and help preserve all three points for the Union before making another in the 95th minute as Gary Mackay-Steven was one-v-one with the Jamaican. NYCFC are still searching for their first win of the 2020 MLS season as well as their first league goal after three matches. 

The Union defense held strong against NYCFC, limiting service to talisman Heber and stifling their opponent's ability to make use of their possession advantage. Philly held just 40% of the ball. 

NYCFC winger Alexandru Mitrita missed out due to a knock picked up in training, ditto for Union forwards Andrew Wooten and Sergio Santos. Meanwhile, Union Homegrown attacker Jack de Vries came off the bench to make his MLS debut.

Big players come through in key moments.

The former MLS Goalkeeper of the Year and SuperDraft No. 1 pick, Blake stood tallest in the final 30 minutes to preserve all three points for the Union. He made a stellar fingertip save on Heber then denied Mackay-Steven in the game's final minute. 

Three Things

• THE BIG PICTURE: One of the most anticipated matchups of the group stage, as well as the first 9 am kickoff, there was plenty of intrigue around this match. Some moments of the match were slower than others — by the 55th minute, the real feel temperature was 99 degrees — but all in all, the game didn't look all that much different than a typical evening start. Early morning MLS! 
• MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Say Their Names. The Union revealed a powerful message in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Instead of the players' names on the back of their jersey, the kits each read the name of a different member of the Black community who have been victims of police brutality.
• YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED: Without piped in crowd noise and more microphones around the pitch, the broadcasts at the tournament can immerse fans even more. That was on great display in this one. One moment that stood out for its entertainment value: The Union bench pleaded for Martinez not to foul in a duel vs. Maxi Moralez. A few seconds later, Martinez was walking away from Moralez on the ground, the referee showing him a yellow card and his bench displaying their disappointment.

Хинкель – о фоле на Понсе: Был далеко, не разглядел, но решений в пользу «Спартака» уже не ждем

Исполнявший обязанности главного тренера красно-белых в матче 28-го тура против «Сочи» Андреас Хинкель прокомментировал поражение команды.

- Как сказалось отсутствие дисквалифицированного Доменико Тедеско на игре «Спартака»?- Я не знаю, и вряд ли кто-то даст ответ на этот вопрос. К игре мы полностью подготовились, я в гостинице провел установку. Все было проанализировано. Ребятам все рассказали. А повлияло ли отсутствие Тедеско, я не могу сказать... Мы бы хотели, чтобы он был с нами на скамейке. Однако надо принимать сложившиеся обстоятельства. Что случилось, то случилось.

- Почему «Спартак» настолько однообразен тактически?
- Я не согласен. Мы сыграли достаточно гибко. Футболисты менялись позициями, флангами. Не понимаю вопроса.

- »Спартак» не может победить уже пять туров. Это психологически давит?
- Ситуация в команде непростая, и сам сезон тоже странный в связи с пандемией. Я считаю, что для наших молодых игроков это хороший опыт на будущее. Сложности закаляют характер. Мы верим, что преодолеем все проблемы и станем сильнее.

- Был ли пенальти на Эсекиэле Понсе?
- Сейчас ничего не могу сказать. Я четко не видел момента, был далеко, игроки закрывали обзор, а повторов еще не смотрел. Но, честно, решений в пользу «Спартака» уже даже не ждем.

- Что надо сделать «Спартаку», чтобы иметь шансы на победу в полуфинале Кубка России против «Зенита»?
- Кубковые матчи отличаются от чемпионата. Я знаю это по себе, когда сам играл. В Кубке шанс всегда есть. Это же один матч. Мы сделаем все, чтобы взбодрить ребят и подвести их к «Зениту» в идеальном состоянии.

«Спартак» забил ударом скорпиона... в свои ворота и опустился ниже «Сочи» (видео)

- Очень ценные для нас очки и важная победа, - констатировал главный тренер «Сочи» Владимир Федотов. - Во втором тайме давление «Спартака» было серьезное, но мы справились. Нам не хватает свежести. У нас нет длинной скамейки. Поэтому особенно благодарен ребятам за то, что выдержали все 90 минут.

- Ваша команда догнала «Спартак» в таблице. Значит ли это, что класс команд сопоставим?
- Сейчас внизу таблицы плотность очень высокая. Команды постоянно меняют свои места. И борьба за выживание пока не окончена. Мы одержали очень важную победу, но расслабляться рано.

Слуцкий догнал «Спартак» и очень помог ЦСКА. Расклады на Лигу чемпионов, Лигу Европы и вылет

Кроме досрочного чемпионства «Зенита» и вероятного вылета в ФНЛ «Оренбурга» в российской премьер-лиге практически ничего не ясно. Интрига за три тура до финиша закручена до предела.

Заключительный матч 27-го тура «Рубин» - «Краснодар» получился веселым: уже в первом тайме команды нанесли по воротам друг друга 23 удара! Гости привычно много владели мячом, часто атаковали, но голевые моменты создавали с трудом: в отсутствие травмированного Ари и дисквалифицированного Маркуса Берга центрфорварда был вынужден играть Вандерсон.

Казанцы же здорово действовали на контратаках. Особенно нацелен на гол был экс-краснодарец Иван Игнатьев. «Рубин» мог получить пенальти, когда Юрий Газинский придержал в штрафной Филипа Уремовича, однако арбитр Станислав Васильев «быков» пожалел. Впрочем, в начале второго тайма все тот же Уремович все-таки вписал свое имя в протокол - как автор результативной передачи на Дениса Макарова. А тому отличиться помог рикошет от ноги Егора Сорокина, который дезориентировал Матвея Сафонова.

Пропущенный мяч сломал план Мурада Мусаева. Краснодарцы засуетились, принялись «грузить» вперед, что им не свойственно, и допускать огромное количество ошибок. Зато Леонид Слуцкий мог быть полностью удовлетворен. Его команда отоборонялась на «отлично», более того, «Рубин» забил второй раз - но судьи усмотрели у Евгения Маркова миллимитровый офсайд.

Таким образом, «Краснодар» потерпел второе поражение кряду и не смог опередить по набранным очкам ЦСКА. По потерянным южане по-прежнему находятся выше армейцев, зато снова отстают от «Локомотива». А по большому счету, гонка за вторую и третью российские путевки в Лигу чемпионов после 27-го тура запустилась заново. И Слуцкий благодаря победе над «быками» заметно повысил шансы своей бывшей команды на прямое попадание в групповой этап ЛЧ-2020/21. Да, ЦСКА теперь - реальный претендент на вторую строчку. Хотя еще полторы недели назад поверить в такое было невозможно. Да и «Рубин» из борцов за выживание плавно переместился в группу команд, сражающихся за потенциально еврокубковое шестое место. По очкам казанцы сравнялись со «Спартаком»!

Только ростовчане практически лишились шансов на вторую строчку (групповой этап ЛЧ), но на третью (квалификация) претендуют и они. Многое в этой закрутке решится в 29-м туре, когда сойдутся «Локо» и ЦСКА. Краснодарцы по-прежнему могут обойти тех и других, но у команды Мусаева возникли очевидные игровые трудности. Календарь «быков» вроде бы проще, чем у конкурентов. Однако попробуй сейчас останови в Самаре разыгравшиеся при Андрее Талалаеве «Крылья». Да и появление в и без того плотном графике перенесенного на 19 июля матча с «Динамо» - тоже проблема. «Краснодар» рискует задохнуться на финише.

Ну а Слуцкий может еще раз подсобить ЦСКА. Только теперь не победой, а... поражением от армейцев в ближайшем туре. Впрочем, красно-синие, выдавшие отрезок из трех побед с общим счетом 10:0, в помощи не нуждаются. Это сейчас самая горячая РПЛ. Кстати, ЦСКА 19-й раз кряду обеспечил себе попадание в еврокубки.

Если «Зениту» удастся завоевать Кубок России, шестая строчка в таблице РПЛ станет пропуском в квалификацию Лиги Европы. В этой борьбе также многое определится в 29-м туре, когда сразятся «Уфа» и «Динамо». «Уралу» в заключительных турах предстоят два матча с топ-клубами («Краснодар» и «Локомотив»). Самый сложный календарь на бумаге у «Рубина». А «Спартак» сейчас настолько нестабилен, что набрать на четыре очка больше уфимцев для красно-белых - практически нерешаемая задача. Почему на четыре? Потому что при равенстве в силу вступят личные встречи, а в них теперь уже бывший клуб Шамиля Газизова преуспел больше нынешнего (1:0, 0:0). А еще говорят, что новый гендир красно-белых пошел на повышение. Команда Вадима Евсеева с этим не согласится.

Как и «Ахмат», который обязан отобрать хоть что-то у «Спартака», «Зенита» и «Краснодара». А вдруг, несмотря на летний прогресс, не получится?.. Скорее всего, решающими станут матчи «Крыльев» и «Тамбова» против «Сочи».
