Paderborn will be desperate for win when they welcome the flying Billy Goats to Benteler-Arena in Friday’s Bundesliga skirmish.

Honeymoon is over, as Paderborn’s uprising has been cut short; Steffen Baumgart’s men are yet to win a game following the closing days of January, since when they’ve managed four defeats and a point off ghastly Schalke 04 in Gelsenkirchen, cementing their dead last place on Bundesliga table.
Their performances at Benteler-Arena lately has been decent but usually without a results to show up for it as Black&Blues went on a losing run post-December and victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, with Mainz being third consecutive team to go back home with all the points in the bag as Paderborn revert to their factory settings.
Following a demolition job in the capital city two weeks ago, the frisky Billy Goats continued their good run of form as FC Köln earned all three points against FC Schalke 04 last Saturday evening at the RheinEnergieSTADION in Cologne.
It was seventh triumph in last nine games for Markus Gisdol and his band of merry men as the Goats continue their rampage; relegation worries are things of the past as Köln shot up the table, currently residing on 11th step of Bundesliga ladder, with a game in hand and serious chance of mounting a Europa League push, should they maintain their brilliant form…
Improving during their outings outside of Cologne would be a huge step up and potentially a deciding factor whether the Goats are capable of reaching continental football but at the moment, their efficiency on travels is hard to estimate simply because they’ve played so little away games since their rejuvenation started (already mentioned rampage through Berlin and terrible 5-1 loss at Dortmund).
Streli Mamba’s the only one certain absentee for Paderborn’s Black&Blues, with Luca Kilian still waiting on doctor’s approval after coming back from thigh injury.
As for the Billy Goats, two very important players are sitting this one out, with their (arguably) best player Jhon Cordoba missing out after picking up a yellow during last game and their #1, Timo Horn, still fighting an illness as he joined Birger Verstraete, Rafael Czichos, Noah Katterbach and Thomas Kessler in Köln ‘s injury report.

Meetings between the two during their 2. Bundesliga days were high octane, truly insane affairs, played like neither of them had any defenders on the field. Goals were leaking left and right and with both of them maintaining similar style of football, I think we’ll see another one of these, especially now, when Paderborn is forced to go all gung ho, desperate for vital points in their quest for survival.
Which will ultimately be their undoing… The Goats are playing brilliantly since December and while they’ll be without their best player for this one, they will be smart (and lethal) enough to use every ounce of space Baumgart’s men leave them.
