Minnesota United FC 1, Columbus Crew SC 0 | 2019 MLS Match Recap


Ethan Finlay got his wish.
The Minnesota United winger burned his former club on Saturday night, scoring the game-winner in a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Columbus Crew SC at a chilly but raucous Allianz Field. 
A few days after admitting that "I'd be lying to you if I said I didn't want to beat up on them pretty bad," Finlay was the man on the spot at the far post when his fellow Minnesota native Brent Kallman leaped headlong to head a Romain Metanire delivery across the face of goal for an empty-net finish in the 70th minute. 
It was the decisive moment in a match brimming with intensity but short on finishing, with each side entering the night with only one win in their past month's slate.

  • THE BIG PICTURE: This one had the crisp, edgy feel of a playoff game, while also showcasing the attacking concerns that could jeopardize both sides' postseason prospects. Slumping Crew SC have now scored just 12 goals across their 14 matches, the third-lowest total in the league, and have netted just five times during their current 1-7 skid.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: When Kallman and Finlay linked up, both euphoria and relief washed across Allianz Field...
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: No surprises here. Ethan Finlay earns the nod not only for his goal but his work rate and intensity along the Loons' right flank.

Philadelphia Union 0, Seattle Sounders 0 | 2019 MLS Match Recap


Cross-conference contenders Philadelphia Union and Seattle Sounders maintained their respective unbeaten runs after drawing 0-0 on Saturday at Talen Energy Stadium.
While the Union had a full week to prepare for this game, Seattle were on short rest, having won 2-1 on Wednesday at home over Orlando City. With the number of injuries on the squad and the short turnaround, Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer opted to make five changes to his starting XI. Philadelphia, meanwhile, welcomed back goalkeeper Andre Blake after he missed four games due to injury.
The Union firmly controlled the run of play in the first half, but in spite of holding two-thirds of possession both teams managed a shot on target each through 45 minutes, both saved.
With the game still scoreless and Philadelphia piling on the pressure, substitute Ilsinho set up Brenden Aaronson, but the youngster's one-timer went wide of the mark in the 69th minute. Two minutes later, Haris Medunjanin forced a full layout save from Stefan Frei on a free kick to keep it 0-0.

  • THE BIG PICTURE: Both teams are unbeaten in six games with this result. While both sides will feel they could have gotten more, a draw on balance between contenders is solid. The Union will have more reason to be disappointed, with how much they controlled the game, but the Sounders will likely be elated with the road draw on short rest.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: The save on Medunjanin's free kick kept the Sounders in the match and ultimately helped the result.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Stefan Frei was called upon to do much of the lifting for Seattle and he duly delivered, with six saves and a punch on the night.

San Jose Earthquakes 4, Chicago Fire 1 | 2019 MLS Match Recap


Chris Wondolowski wrote his name into MLS lore in storybook fashion at rainy Avaya Stadium on Saturday, scoring four times to lead the San Jose Earthquakes to a resounding 4-1 victory over the Chicago Fire and break the league's career individual scoring record.
Making his first start in a month and a half, Wondo bagged his opener – it's also his first strike of 2019 – in trademark fashion, ghosting to the back post to knock home an inviting delivery from longtime teammate Shea Salinas. In doing so, the San Jose legend drew level with Landon Donovan, himself an ex-Quake, atop the all-time MLS scoring chart. 
Wondo would need less than half an hour of game action to push ahead of Donovan for good. The Danville, California native was even more opportunistic on his second, tapping home from point-blank range after Fire goalkeeper David Ousted dropped a straightforward take right at his feet.
In the 74th minute the 36-year-old wowed the soaked home crowd with a blast into the top corner to notch a hat trick, then barely two minutes later he added a stunning fourth, again outwitting the Chicago back line to find space at the back post to sidefoot home a savvy feed from Jackson Yueill.
Aleksandar Katai's deflected tally provided some late consolation for the visitors, but this day belonged to Wondo and his mates.

  • THE BIG PICTURE: Did the record fall due to a vintage Wondo performance, or a woeful defensive showing from the Fire? Probably a bit of both, and the outcome puts Matias Almeyda's revitalized Earthquakes on cloud nine while bringing the Men in Red back to earth with a thump.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Though Wondolowski's third goal was the prettiest, the record-setting second was the one that sent shivers up the spines of viewers, with the humble goal king characteristically celebrating the moment of euphoria with his teammates:
  • MAN OF THE MATCH:  Do you really have to ask? It's Wondo's world.

Montreal Impact 0, New England Revolution 0 | 2019 MLS Match Recap


In a match most notable for a Jalil Anibaba goal-line clearance to deny an Impact goal — and the return of Ignacio Piatti after a two-month absence — the Montreal Impact and New England Revolution fought to a 0-0 draw at Stade Saputo on Saturday afternoon.
Though the Impact dominated first-half play, with more than a 2-1 possession over the first 45 minutes, neither team could find an opening goal. Maximiliano Urruti came closest, breaking free on a 1 v. 1 with Revs keeper Matt Turner in the 34th minute, but his chip toward goal was saved off the line by a sliding Anibaba to keep things scoreless.
The second half saw the Revs bring a little more heat, including some chances and runs from Teal Bunbury that looked promising, and a 78th-minute free kick opportunity in which Juan Agudelo chose to play a pass to Bunbury rather than attempt a close-range shot himself.
But the most electric moment of the half, certainly for the home fans, was the 66th-minute sub that brought Piatti to game action for the first time in two months.

  • THE BIG PICTURE: For the Impact, the result keeps them in playoff position, and Piatti's return to the field is obviously a big boost for a team that's done well in his absence. The Revs, meanwhile, continue to be undefeated in with Mike Lapper as the interim coach (1 win, 1 draw). Lapper will have at least one more match in charge before Bruce Arena takes over.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Anibaba's run and sliding clearance proved more and more important as the match went on and goal chances proved to be more and more wanting.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Though none of the chances he created ultimately panned out, Carles Gil engineered moves forward that made the Impact defend. Evan Bush, who made four saves and kept the clean sheet draw, also deserves MOTM consideration.

Real Salt Lake 3, Toronto FC 0 | 2019 MLS Match Recap


Real Salt Lake was comprehensive from start to finish in a 3-0 win over Toronto FC on Saturday afternoon at Rio Tinto Stadium.
The ball got rolling in the 14th minute via Damir Kreilach, who easily slammed home a cross from Albert Rusnak after some poor TFC defending in the 18-yard box. The lead then grew to 2-0 in the 28th minute via Sebastian Saucedo, who blasted home his first of the season from 25 yards out with a cool-as-you-like golazo.
As Toronto brought on Jozy Altidore at halftime, any hopes of a comeback were squelched when Jefferson Savarino made it 3-0 in the 60th minute, outmuscling Justin Morrow on a ball over the top. Matters then went from bad to worse for Toronto, as a second yellow card to Alejandro Pozuelo prompted the playmaker’s first red card in MLS. 
RSL didn’t have striker Sam Johnson in the starting XI per a coach’s decision, but that caused few problems. Mike Petke benched the Liberian for being late to a team meeting.

Three Things 

  • THE BIG PICTURE: This was a dominant performance from RSL from start to finish, one that pushed the home side above .500 at Rio Tinto Stadium. For a team that’s struggled with consistency all season long, the match also marked back-to-back wins for the second time this season. Toronto, meanwhile, was a step off the mark with tired legs and dropped to 0-3-1 in their last four matches. This wrapped up a stretch of five games in 15 days for the Reds.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Sebastian “Bofo” Saucedo doesn’t score often – he entered Saturday’s game with four career goals – but they tend to be golazos when he does. This one was a beauty, as the RSL winger cut inside several times before sending a curler past Quentin Westberg from 25 yards out.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: With several options in the attacking third, Saucedo sometimes gets lost in the thick of it for RSL. But the Homegrown Player was electric in his second straight start with an early Goal of the Week presented by AT&T contender and an assist on Savarino’s goal. Aside from buzzing around all afternoon, he also drew the red card on Pozuelo.

Jornal: Real cogita pagar R$ 1 bilhão para convencer PSG a liberar Neymar

A temporada do Real Madrid não está entre as melhores. Crises, eliminações e derrotas emblemáticas marcaram 2018/2019. Zidane assumiu a equipe e busca renovar o elenco, enquanto a diretoria do clube quer contratar grandes jogadores para "acalmar" a torcida. Hazard é o mais provável, mas Pogba, Eriksen e até Neymar ainda são cogitados. Segundo o jornal espanhol 'Marca', o presidente Florentino Pérez pode pagar até 250 milhões de euros (R$ 1 bilhão) para tentar convencer o PSG a liberar Neymar.
NEYMAR sempre foi um desejo pessoal do presidente Florentino Pérez. Perder o brasileiro para o Barcelona mexeu com o orgulho do mandatário, que pode não medir esforços para tentar buscar a contratação do atacante. O mais difícil é convencer o PSG a liberar o atleta. Florentino pagaria, sem dúvidas, até 250 milhões de euros (R$ 1 bilhão) para contratar Neymar, segundo o jornal espanhol. HAZARD Hazard é a contratação mais provável. O belga não esconde o desejo de defender o Real Madrid e ser treinado por Zidane. Ao ser questionado sobre uma possível ida, o atacante, porém, sempre despista. Quer encerrar a temporada com o Chelsea com o título da Liga Europa. 

 Os Blues, por sua vez, estão impedidos de comprar jogadores (sanção da Uefa) e estão dificultando as negociações, pedindo mais de 100 milhões de euros (R$ 444 milhões) pelo belga. JOVIC Com 27 gols em 27 jogos, Luka Jovic é o jogador ideal para substituir Benzema. Pelo menos é assim que a diretoria merengue enxerga o sérvio. O Eintracht Frankfurt pede 70 milhões de euros (R$ 311 milhões). O clube alemão, porém, já demonstrou interesse em Mariano Diáz, que pode ser incluído na negociação. MENDY Zidane já bancou Marcelo na equipe, apesar do interesse da Juventus de Cristiano Ronaldo e da má fase do brasileiro. O jovem francês Ferland Mendy, do Lyon, interessa para compor elenco.

Spor Toto Süper Lig'de 33. haftanın dev randevusunda Galatasaray ile Medipol Başakşehir kozlarını paylaşacak. Türk Telekom Stadyumu'nda saat 19:00'da başlayacak olan maç öncesinde iki ekibin kadroları açıklandı.
