Report: Celtic and other Scottish clubs set for showdown with SFA on disciplinary issues

Celtic and other clubs in Scottish football are set to seek talks with Scottish FA decision-makers at Hampden after a number of unpopular disciplinary issues, The Scottish Daily Mail report (21/01 print edition, back page).
After a decision to hand a substantial ban to Ryan Christie and a severe delay in taking decisions on incidents in a recent derby match at Celtic Park, there has been growing anger about the processes at the governing body.
The Scottish Daily Mail believe unrest has spread beyond Celtic and Rangers, with chairmen in the top-flight now set to seek showdown talks with the SFA hierarchy, compliance officer Clare Whyte and refereeing head Crawford Allan via the Professional Game Board.
The paper says that there’s a realisation that change is needed, with Whyte criticised for some bizarre and random retrospective action this season.
In a statement on 6th January, Celtic made their feelings clear on it all, saying: “Given the recent treatment of Celtic players and the lack of sanctions being imposed on those responsible, the fact that a sanction has been imposed on Ryan for the incident in question demonstrates a worrying lack of consistency in the Scottish FA fast track process.”
It seems that significant change could be coming to Scotland football.

Important for Celtic to lead the way

As the most successful team in Scottish football by far over the last decade-plus, it’s crucial that Celtic help bring the disciplinary process at the Scottish FA into a new modern era.
The onus really is on the clubs to seek change and it must change that all parties think is a progressive and transparent way forward.
The current situation of clubs releasing multiple statements a season and fans being constantly in the dark about why certain decisions have been taken can’t continue.

There’s far too much secrecy surrounding the way bans are handed out from Hampden
As long as everyone knows where they stand and the decisions are made in a timely manner, everyone should be working together to ensure the drama is kept to a minimum and common sense prevails.
