All Flamengo players will be tested for the Covid-19 coronavirus.
The decision to submit the team to the tests came after the vice president of Embassies and Consulates of the club, Maurício Gomes de Mattos, tested positive for the virus.
13 days ago, at the end of February, Mattos travelled to Spain accompanied by Flamengo club president Rodolfo Landin and vice president of communication and marketing Gustavo Oliveira for a visit to Ciudad Real Madrid.
On Thursday, Real Madrid reported that a basketball player on the team had contracted the virus.
Now that Mattos has also tested positive, all the players and members of Flamengo’s technical committee will undergo testing.
After the trip to Spain, Mattos went with the rest of the group to Colombia, where Flamengo kicked off their Copa Libertadores group-stage campaign with a win over Junior Barranquilla.
There, Mattos was with all the other members of the Flamengo delegation, both at the hotel and on the flights.
The Rio de Janeiro State Football Federation (FERJ) has suspended ticket sales for all Campeonato Carioca matches, however, at the time of writing, matches are set to take place behind closed doors.
Flamengo are scheduled to face Portuguesa on Saturday.
