Valencia vs Sevilla predictions, H2H and match preview for this Wednesday’s game in La Liga. Read on for analysis and predicted line-ups as Los Che aim to bounce back from a damaging weekend loss.
Valencia vs Sevilla Preview
This is perhaps the pick of the midweek games in La Liga as two sides with top four ambitions clash. It’s probably a bigger match for Valencia in truth after an abject showing on Sunday in Pamplona and an unconvincing start to life under Albert Celades. Sevilla will be hoping to pile the pressure on him by claiming a rare win at the Mestalla.
Celades may point to the controversial sending off of Rodrigo Moreno against Osasuna as the turning point but even having ten men doesn’t really excuse how easily they were defeated. Osasuna had 29 shots to Valencia’s 3 in a game which ended 3-1 to the hosts. It only added to the sense that there is no consistency with this current Valencia side who have blown hot and cold all season and as was the case last term, they find themselves with ground to make up on their fellow European hopefuls.
Sevilla are also a work in progress. Defensively they certainly look better this season. They come into this game following successive wins to nil at home and aside from a heavy defeat at Camp Nou, it’s just 7 goals conceded in 9 league games. Chicharito was on target in the weekend win over Getafe and he looks just about their best bet up front although they lack many convincing options.
Valencia have a bit more bite in attack but they also have La Liga’s second worst defensive record now, having boasted one of the best last term. That’s clearly a worry with the early signs being that this 4-3-3 approach under Celades is leaving them exposed at times at the back. Sevilla should match that formation here but both sides may consider freshening things up with a bit of rotation.
Valencia vs Sevilla Predictions
Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw
Valencia don’t look that convincing right now and you do worry that the mood could turn really toxic again if another result or two goes against them. That could make it tough for the players even though most of the anger won’t be directed against them. Sevilla carry more momentum into this game but their poor record away to the big clubs over a number of years now suggests a point may still be the best outcome for them here.
