Italy – Serie A
Date: Sunday, 2 August 2020
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore.
I Neroverdi had a tough set of fixtures in the past few weeks, and their results expectedly suffered. However, they bounced back with a huge win against Genoa the last match-day.
As of now, they look set to finish eighth in the table – just below the final European spot, and next time around, they would definitely love to battle for a Europa ticket.
Meanwhile, the Little Zebras have had a decent season for their standards, and would love to end it in a positive note. Still, with their safety confirmed, the team would not overexert themselves in search for a win that would ultimately prove to be pointless.
Considering the overall form of Roberto De Zerbi’s men, especially at this venue (disregarding few glitches due to their tough games recently), their h2h superiority, and the struggles of Luca Gotti’s men on the road – expect Sassuolo to deliver the better performance.
Sassuolo vs Udinese: Head-to-head (h2h)
- I Neroverdi recorded four of the previous six overall wins.
- They had the lost the reverse fixture, with a 3-0 scoreline at home.
- Four of the preceding eight games had goals from both teams.
- In the last seven years, only once have the guests won at this stadium.
- Since 2016, the visitors have scored a total of just one goal here.
Sassuolo vs Udinese: Prediction
Zerbi’s men recorded a 5-0 win the last match-day, against Genoa. After they had to go through a series of winless games recently (against Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan), this victory was an absolutely needed one, and it has improved confidence in their camp.
In the meanwhile, the Little Zebras lost 1-2 at home the past game week, against Lecce.
As things stand, I Neroverdi are expected to be the better team on the pitch. They were unbeaten in eight of their last ten overall games, and these two losses had come against AC Milan.
At home, they have lost just once in the last six months (and this loss had come against AC Milan). In the process, they had also scored three or more goals in five of their previous six appearances here.
On the other hand, their counterparts were winless in four of their preceding six overall fixtures, and remained so in 14 of their last 19 road trips.
In addition, Zerbi’s men had registered four of the past six overall h2h wins, and disregarding a single loss at this venue, they have a 100% unbeaten record in the last seven years in h2h clashes at home.
Considering these observations, expect Sassuolo to dominate proceedings this Sunday.
