Ireland international Jeff Hendrick has been linked with a shock move to a Serie A giant.
The midfielder’s contract at Burnley winds down this summer, and there is no indication whether he will stay at Turf Moor.
The Clarets have held initial talks with the 28-year-old over a new contract and remain hopeful of keeping him, but reports suggest he could be on the cusp of a massive move to Italy.
Sky Sports reports that AC Milan are interest in bringing Hendrick, who has 54 Ireland caps, to Serie A on a free transfer.
The Italian giants are said to have signalled their interest in the Dubliner before the health crisis brought a halt to fall, and are considering a shock swoop in the next transfer window.
Hendrick is currently free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside England, with AC Milan and a host of Premier League clubs said to be interested in his signature.
Seven-time European champions AC Milan — and their city rivals Inter — are increasingly looking towards England for transfers, and should Hendrick fail to agree a contract extension he could leave for nothing when the transfer window opens.
Burnley took the option to extend his deal by 12-months last summer, and manager Sean Dyche was keen to open contract talks with his midfield mainstay prior to football’s shutdown.
Hendrick’s club and international team-mate Robbie Brady was recently handed a contract extension to remain at the club until 2021.
