Pep Guardiola says Manchester City catching Liverpool is "unrealistic"

This is a monumental season for Liverpool FC. The Reds are on course to secure their first Premier League title in 30 years as they head into the New Year at the top of the table. With his side way adrift in third, Pep Guardiola has conceded that it is “unrealistic” to think that Manchester City could catch Liverpool.

As it stands Liverpool are 11 points ahead of the reigning champions, with Jürgen Klopp also having a game in hand over the Manchester side. If the Reds beat Leicester City and win their game in hand then they will boast a surely unassailable 14 point lead over City.
Sky Sports have reported that Pep Guardiola doesn’t believe Manchester City can catch Liverpool, the Spaniard said:
“Hopefully Leicester will have a good performance against Liverpool in the next game but before that we’ve got to think about an extremely tough game at Wolves. But I think it is unrealistic to think we are going to chase down a team who has 60 victories out of 70 games. If they lose a few games and we win and win I don’t know what will happen but I’m not optimistic they are going to lose four or five games in 10, 11, 12 games because they are such an incredibly strong team.”
It’s not over until it’s over. We have been hurt before. The last three teams to be top at Christmas and not win the league are Liverpool, Liverpool and Liverpool.
The ex-Barcelona boss managed to catch up with us last year when we were miles ahead. We won’t be taking anything for granted this time around.
Whilst Guardiola has his eyes on our game with Leicester City, we are only ever concerned with our own football, with our next game. It is this attitude that has seen the Reds pull ahead of the rest of the pack. Fingers crossed we keep it up until the end of the season.
