TRABZONSPOR LOOK TO SIGN ELNENY

Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor have reportedly opened negotiations to sign Arsenal’s Egyptian international Mohamed Elneny.

The Pharaohs star has been on loan at Trabzonspor’s rivals Besiktas through the 2019-20 season, but he is unlikely to remain at the Black Eagles due to issues of unpaid wages.

A return to Arsenal is also not on the radar for the 28-year-old, who is not set to be a part of manager Mikel Arteta’s plans for the 2020-21 campaign.

Elneny impressed in the Super Lig through this past season, making 27 appearances for Besiktas, and Trabzonspor have moved to offer €1.7 million to sign the player on a permanent basis, according to a report in Turkish news outlet GazeteDamga.

Trabzonspor would represent an attractive destination for Elneny, with the club having finished second on the Turkish Super Lig table and won the Turkish Cup after beating Alanyaspor in the final.

However, they were banned from all UEFA club competitions for the 2020–21 and 2021–22 seasons by the UEFA Club Financial Control Body due to breaches of the UEFA Financial Fair Play Regulations.

Should Elneny sign for Trabzonspor, it is likely he will replace Senegal’s Badou Ndiaye, who had been on loan from Stoke City.
