Paris Saint-Germain 3-2 Atletico Madrid: Tuchel pleased with youngsters as PSG ease past Atletico

In a relatively cool evening in Singapore, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain fought it out in a bid to leave the city with positivity and confidence.
A 3-2 scoreline to PSG, courtesy of a late winner, was the perfect conclusion to the ICC in Singapore. This game came of more importance for the Parisians, given their Trophée des Champions game against Monaco in Shenzhen on 4th August.
It looked that way from Tuchel’s starting XI, his intention, no doubt, to give some of his first-teamers match fitness.
There were starts for Marco Verratti, Giovani Lo Celso and Angel di Maria, all of whom did not start the Arsenal game. The latter in fact only arrived in Singapore on Sunday but, unlike Thiago Silva who arrived today, was deemed fit to start.

In control

As expected, PSG controlled possession for the majority of the first half but Atletico enjoyed a couple of close chances. That included a Kevin Gameiro one-on-one with Kevin Trapp that he managed to put over the bar.
Christopher Nkunku continued his strong pre-season with a well-taken goal in the box that might have been called a penalty otherwise.
The midfield of Adrien Rabiot, Verratti and Lo Celso were fluid, providing glimpses of their abilities in a three-man midfield together. Di Maria was slightly more quiet, although Atletico’s overloading of the right was a factor.
PSG’s substitutions rolled in at the break with all but Kevin Trapp coming off. Substitutes Alec Georgen and Loic Mbe Soh came off quickly soon, rounding the count to 12.
The French continued to dominate even with a changed XI, Moussa Diaby crashing one shot against the crossbar. He soon made it 2-0 after Timothy Weah played him through.

The comeback

Victor Mollejo brought one back at the 75th minute with a scrappy finish before Bernede turned the ball past Trapp and into his goal with four minutes of normal time to go.
Just as it seemed penalties was set, Virgiliu Postolachi was set up by Jean-Christophe Bahebeck to score the late match-winner and send his young teammates on a celebratory spree. For a team fielding youngsters across the XI, the second half was impressive.
Atletico were set up in a 4-3-3, a sign of things to come in the following season. They did compete well, with the classic Simeone grittiness. Gameiro’s wasted chance was certainly the key moment that let PSG off the hook.
But with their first team back, this formation might well suit them forward. The result might sting slightly, given Simeone’s histrionics on the sidelines today, but he will be pleased with how his tactics played out.

Promising youth

Tuchel will be pleased with his youngsters.
While his first-teamers did well, it was the performances of Moussa Diaby, Arthur Zagre, Timothy Weah, Yacine Adli and Postolachi amongst others that would encourage him. He has promising youngsters at his disposal, and it’s a bright sign. This win would do a world of good for his squad.
“The performance in the second half is what we can take away,” he said. “We left our heart on the field. We showed unbelievable mentality against a team that is so well-known and a team with the best mentality, maybe in the world.”
“The youngsters played amazing in the second half. They played with passion and they played with intensity and they gave everything, which is what we need and what they deserved. So this is a very good ending. This is, of course, a good feeling and self-confidence.”

Lessons learned

While the attendance was lesser than the Arsenal-Atletico game, it didn’t feel like that at times.
The spree of goals in the second half lifted everyone’s spirits and, while some for rooting for penalties, this win capped off an entertaining ICC.
There was a penalty shoot-out, a near sell-out and a tight game decided by a late winner: lessons to be learnt from this edition.
The International Champions Cup continues in Europe and United States. PSG have played their three games while Atletico host Inter Milan before their season starts.

Paris Saint-Germain expect Edinson Cavani to stay with club - Thomas Tuchel

SINGAPORE -- Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel is confident that star striker Edinson Cavani will stay with the French champions despite recent links with Real Madrid.
The German tactician watched his young team beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 at National Stadium in the final match of the International Champions Cup (ICC) in Singapore and was asked about the Uruguay international's future in the postmatch news conference.
"I think Edinson will stay with us," said Tuchel. "Nobody has told me anything, so I think that he will stay.
"Edinson and I spoke before he left for the World Cup and he showed no interest in leaving."
Regarding the match, the former Borussia Dortmund and Mainz 05 boss admitted that it was not easy but was happy to see PSG's youth academy products come good.
"It was a complicated match, but we played well in the second half," he said. "There were 16-year-old players out there and they helped each other a lot -- I am happy with the whole team's performance."
Marco Verratti made his long-awaited return from injury during the first half and he enjoyed the outing -- albeit brief.
"Personally, it is my first match for several months," said the Italy international. "It is impossible to be in good shape. It was nice to play again, and we will try to find our rhythm in the next few games.
"I feel good and I am no longer in pain, so that is the most important thing."

Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, who played the full 90 minutes and was captain during the second half, praised the team's youngsters for their display.
"Even if the result was not the most important thing at the end of the day, this win did us good," the German keeper said. "We have been working hard but the last results were not good, so a moment like this, winning through a last-minute goal, feels good.
"The result shows our mentality and the youngsters gave everything -- they put in a top performance."
Virgiliu Postolachi scored a dramatic late winner after Christopher Nkunku and Moussa Diaby's goals had been cancelled out by two late Atletico goals and the former was delighted with his impact as a second-half replacement for the injured Alec Georgen.
"Being part of this tour was already a source of great pride for me," he said. "So, to score in the final match... I was looking forward to this goal and it finally arrived.
"I am proud of the team. We were mentally strong, and we never gave up."
Yacine Adli, who came close to signing his first professional contract with Arsenal instead of PSG, was another second half introduction and was happy to help his teammates to erase the memory of their ICC defeats to the Gunners and Bayern Munich.
"I got here a bit later than everybody else, but Moussa and I saw a relaxed squad," said the France youth international. "Despite some negative results, which were anecdotal anyway, everybody was very focused and applied in training.
"We deserved this win and wanted to get over the 5-1 loss to Arsenal. It was great for the team and we have progressed mentally."
Antoine Bernede, who put through his own net to hand Atletico a short-lived equaliser, is enjoying his time with Tuchel and hopes to develop with PSG.
"I like the coach's methods very much and I am doing my best to adapt," he said. "I like his way of seeing football and I enjoy each training session and match.
"I am young, and I have a lot to learn, both from the other players and the coach. This is a big club with great ambitions and I hope to be part of the project for as long as possible."

Adrien Rabiot 'nearing new Paris Saint-Germain deal'

Adrien Rabiot 'nearing new PSG deal'
Adrien Rabiot will reportedly sign a new long-term contract with Paris Saint-Germain following positive talks with the French club's new head coach Thomas Tuchel.
Rabiot, who scored five times and registered seven assists in 50 appearances for PSG last season, will see his current deal with the Ligue 1 champions expire next summer.
Barcelona have been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old, and it had been thought that the Frenchman would move on in this summer's transfer window.
Tuchel recently said that he was hopeful that Rabiot would sign a new deal, however, and according to ESPN FC, the midfielder will soon pen a fresh contract with the French giants.
Rabiot has captained PSG in all three of their International Champions Cup matches this summer.

Monaco unveil 22-man list for French Super Cup in China

Ligue 1 runners-up Monaco head coach Leonardo Jardim on Tuesday announced a 22-man squad before the team headed to China for the French Super Cup, with captain Radamel Falcao set to join his teammates later on.
Three players that had played the FIFA World Cup in Russia, Kamil Glik, Youri Tielemans and Keita Balde, were included in the list.
Danijel Subasic and Djibril Sidibe, both making into the World Cup final with their respective national teams, were absent from the tour. Talented Russian midfielder Aleksandr Golovin, the club's latest signing during the off-season, would not be travelling either.
Monaco added that their captain Falcao was set to join teammates in China on Friday morning.
Monaco will play against Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in Shenzhen, China on Saturday.

Tottenham boss Pochettino wants 'glory' but unhappy at early closure of transfer window

Tottenham Hotspurs coach Mauricio Pochettino has said the time has come for his team to start winning titles and "play for glory."
The Argentinean has led the North London side to three consecutive top-three finishes in the Premier League, and FA Cup semi-final and a League Cup final, but has yet to land any silverware and he wants that to change.
Speaking ahead of his side's game against AC Milan in the International Champions Cup on Wednesday, Pochettino said he hoped the positive World Cup enjoyed by several Tottenham players such as Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen would be reflected in the forthcoming season.
Pochettino said he wanted to see his players "keep going" after the World Cup and to "feel the internal motivation."
"Playing for the glory and trying to help the team to try to win. That is the most important thing," he said.
The coach admitted he was unhappy this season's transfer window would close on August 9th rather than on August 31st, saying it was "so close... I don't know if we are going to sign (anyone) or not. We're working on that. I cannot tell you if we're going to sign one, zero or two or three or four players," said the Spurs boss.
Pochettino believes the fact English clubs will have 3 weeks less to sign players than their European counterparts means they are "at a complete disadvantage," in European competitions.
"Personally I think it's not right... because we are going to compete in the Champions League and to have 20 days less to sign players."
"I think not a thing that is going to help you," he commented.

Chelsea forward Willian happy to stay in London

Chelsea's Brazilian international winger, Willian, on Tuesday poured cold water on speculation linking him with a move away from Stamford Bridge.
Willian is due to return to training with Chelsea on Wednesday and he does so after a wave of rumors linking him with a move away from the London based club in the wake of his impressive World Cup.
Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Manchester United have all been reported to have either made or to be considering offers for the 29-year-old, but in declarations to the Brazilian website Globo Esport, he insisted he didn't want to leave Chelsea.
"I am not moving, I am happy at Chelsea and living in London...I am very happy living in London," declared the forward.
Real Madrid could alter this situation with the European Champions reported in Spain to be weighing up a joint offer for Willian and Chelsea's Belgium international goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

AEK Athens beat Galatasaray 3-2 in soccer friendly

Greek champions AEK Athens beat Turkey's Galatasaray 3-2 at home on Tuesday in their first friendly game for the new soccer season.
Although the Turkish team scored first in the 23rd minute, AEK soon gained control of the game and managed to equalize in the 35th minute with Marko Livaja.
After the interval, AEK were even better and scored two more goals with Tasos Bakasetas in the 52nd minute and Petros Mantalos in the 57th minute.
Next week the Greek champion will face the winner of the game Rosenborg-Celtic Glasgow for the Champions League qualifiers.
The two teams held a minute's silence at the beginning of the game for the 93 victims of the wildfire in Mati Attica.

Palmeiras agree loan deal for AC Milan defender Gomez

Palmeiras have reached an agreement to sign Paraguay international center-back Gustavo Gomez on loan from AC Milan, according to widespread media reports.
The Brazilian club will pay the Italian giants 1.5 million euros in a deal that will expire next July, Brazilian news outlet Globo Esporte said.
Gomez, capped 26 times for Paraguay's national team, had also been linked with Argentine giants Boca Juniors and Rio de Janeiro outfit Flamengo.
The 25-year-old is expected to undergo a medical this week and could make his Palmeiras debut on Sunday in their Brazilian Serie A clash against America Mineiro.
Palmeiras, who are sixth in the 20-team league standings, last week appointed former Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari to replace Roger Machado.
Gomez has made just 19 league appearances for AC Milan since joining the club from Argentina's Lanus in 2016.

Warum kein sofortiger Vidal-Transfer?

Mercato OM: Eyraud voulait Ben Yedder

Wissam Ben Yedder

MLS All-Stars vs. Juventus | 2018 MLS All-Star Game Preview

Mercedes-Benz Stadium — Atlanta
August 1 - 7:30 pm ET
WATCH: ESPN, UniMás, TVAS, TSN 1/3/4/5
Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be the epicenter of the soccer universe Wednesday night as the MLS All-Stars line up to play one of Europe’s most decorated squads in Juventus, the reigning Serie A and Coppa Italia champions.
There’s plenty of familiar names for Juventus, including Sami Khedira, Emre Can, Giorgio Chiellini and Claudio Marchisio, and they will meet one of the most talented MLS All-Star squads assembled, including former Juventus forward Sebastian Giovinco from Toronto FC as well as five players who competed in the World Cup in Russia this summer.

MLS All-Stars

The MLS All-Stars will look for their first win since a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in 2015, and Atlanta United coach Tata Martino will have plenty of firepower at his disposal on Wednesday night.
In fact, it’s probably an embarrassment of riches in the attacking third and it starts with the Five Stripes' own Josef Martinez, who set an MLS record with his sixth hat trick this season en route to scoring 24 goals in his club’s first 23 games — three goals shy of the regular season record for goals set by Bradley Wright-PhillipsChris Wondolowski, and Roy Lassiter.
Fresh off becoming the fastest player in MLS history to score 100 regular season goals, Wright-Phillips of the New York Red Bulls was selected for his second MLS All-Star Game. Mexican international Carlos Vela from LAFC was voted the captain of the MLS All-Stars, joins Giovinco and Darwin Quintero of Minnesota United FC as the other forwards on a stacked squad.
There’s also playmakers and many more additional scoring threats in the midfield, led by Atlanta’s own Miguel Almiron and Ezequiel Barco, newly-signed Bayern Munich phenom Alphonso Davies from Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the 2017 Landon Donovan MLS MVPDiego Valeri of the Portland Timbers among others.
Also selected from hometown Atlanta United are central defender Michael Parkhurst and goalkeeper Brad Guzan.

Juventus

Established in 1897, Juventus are the most decorated club in Italy and one of the most revered in global soccer, having won more Serie A and Coppa Italia titles than any other Italian club. Led by coach Massimiliano Allegri, Juventus are coming off a record seventh straight Serie A title, which was clinched four days after a 13th overall and fourth consecutive Coppa Italia championship, when the Old Lady defeated AC Milan, 4-0.
Captained by legendary Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini, Juventus might not have their biggest and most expensive summer signing with them, as Cristian Ronaldo is resting following the World Cup, but there’s a star-studded lineup as part of their American tour, with German midfielders Sami Khedira and Emre Can, as well as Italian midfielder Claudio Marchisio.
The Bianconeri come into the game off back-to-back wins in the International Champions Cup. Young forward Andrea Favilli struck for a pair of goals eight minutes apart in a 2-0 win over Bayern Munich at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia last Wednesday, and then Luca Clemenza struck for a late equalizer before Juve beat Benfica 4-2 on penalties Saturday afternoon at Red Bull Arena.
After playing in the MLS All-Star Game, Juventus will meet Real Madrid at FedEx Field on Saturday to cap their American tour, before opening their Serie A campaign at Chievo Verona on Aug. 19.

All-Star Game History

Juventus are the second Serie A squad to participate in the MLS All-Star Game; Roma played the MLS All-Stars in 2013, winning 3-1 at Children’s Mercy Park.
This is the first ASG match to be played in Atlanta and it could be the largest crowd in All-Star history, as it tries to break the record of the 70,728 who packed Houston’s Reliant Stadium to watch the MLS All-Stars take on Manchester United in 2010.
This year’s All-Star Game will be the 14th straight to pit MLS against a European opponent. The MLS All-Stars are 7-4-2, with a pair of shootout losses (to Everton in 2009 and Real Madrid a year ago). The All-Stars won the 2014 and 2015 matchups against Bayern Munich and Tottenham before falling to Arsenal in San Jose in 2016.
Prior to 2005, MLS experimented with several different formats for the All-Star Game. The most common was a traditional East vs. West matchup, though the league did have one-off All-Star Games that pit American players against MLS internationals, as well as the 2002 edition which pitted the All-Stars against the US national team in 2002, before hosting Mexican side Chivas Guadalajara in 2003.

Baines Hails Richarlison Signing

Everton left-back Leighton Baines has hailed the signing of Brazilian forward Richarlison after the player made his debut in a pre-season friendly against Blackburn Rovers.

Richarlison signed for the Merseyside club for a fee in the region of £40m this summer and Baines says the player has already made an impression on his teammates.

“I think we saw against Blackburn more than a couple of glimpses of what he’s all about,” the left-back told evertontv.. “He seems to have settled in well and, if you are judging by what we’ve seen on the pitch, then you’d say he has done.

“He’s got fantastic quality, we saw that last year in the Premier League, we’ve seen that already in his couple of days of training and playing half a game with us, so we look forward to seeing more of him.

“I enjoyed that 45 minutes playing with him. He was always available, he can go alone if he needs to, and he’s got an eye for a pass so he’s definitely someone who you can combine with. We managed to link up together a couple of times against Blackburn.”

Bordeaux se lance sur Ben Arfa

Hatem Ben Arfa. (Reuters)

Some of the best and brightest young talent from Major League Soccer and Liga MX will be on display, when the MLS Homegrown Team meet Tigres UANL U-20s in the fifth annual MLS Homegrown Game presented by Energizer, Tuesday night at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground, part of a week of events during 2018 MLS All-Star Atlanta.
Atlanta United Academy director Tony Annan will serve as the head coach for the Homegrown Team against Tigres. Annan, who helped build Atlanta’s academy from the ground up and brings over 20 years of youth development experience to the match, coached the club’s U-17 squad to a national title in the first year of the program.
The game is an opportunity to showcase the growth of the league’s youth development system. MLS academies have produced over 150 Homegrown Players who have signed professional contracts with MLS clubs, with academy products logging a record number of goals, assists, minutes and games played in 2017.
Tigres, the reigning Liga MX U-20 champions, feature a roster of 20 for this game, including seven current members of the club's first-team roster, and several players who have already gotten experience in senior-level competition.

MLS Homegrown Team

The 20-player MLS Homegrown Team roster features many familiar names, including several players who are regular starters for their senior squads. Included on that list are the Philadelphia Union central defense pairing of Mark McKenzie and Auston TrustyD.C. Unitedcentral midfielder Chris Durkin and Real Salt Lake midfielder Sebastian Saucedo.
All but five players on the roster have seen first team minutes this season, though that includes 16-year-old LA Galaxy phenom Efrain Alvarez, who helped lead LA to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s Under-18/19 championship final, where they lost on PKs to NYCFC, who is represented by defender/midfielder James Sands.

Tigres UANL U-20

After beating Club America to win the Liga MX U-20 title in May, Tigres UANL is looking for regional bragging rights Tuesday night against the MLS Homegrown Team. Six players on the roster are members of the Tigres senior roster, including forward Luis Cruz, who is also a member of the Mexican U-20 national team.
Tigres opened defense of their title by knocking off Leon, 3-1, with midfielder Leal Cruz striking for a brace and forward Luis Cruz adding a second half goal. That was followed by a 2-0 victory over Club Tijuana on goals by Bryan Reyes and Luis Cruz.

MLS Homegrown Game History

After the MLS Homegrowns faced the Portland Timbers U-23s in the inaugural MLS Homegrown Game, the match has pitted some of the best young talent in MLS against their neighbors from the south.
This is the third match against Liga MX competition, with Club America prevailing on PKs in 2015 and the MLS Homegrown Team playing Chivas de Guadalajara to a 2-2 draw a year ago. In 2016, Mexico’s U-20 national team defeated the MLS Homegrown Team, 2-0.
