World Cup qualifying roundup: Andrea Belotti nets double as Italy win big in Liechtenstein

The Italians keep pace with Spain thanks to a comfortable win over Group G whipping boys Liechtenstein

A quick-fire double early in the first-half set Italy on course for a 4-0 win against Liechtenstein and a comfortable three points that kept them level with Spain at the top of Group G in World Cup qualifiers.
Torino's Andrea Belotti opened the scoring on 11 minutes, converting Alessio Romagnoli's corner, before Ciro Immobile doubled their lead just a minute later.
Antonio Candreva made it three after just half an hour with a cool finish from inside the box, before Belotti netted his second on the stroke of half-time.

The visitors could have scored a lot more, mustering 27 shots and 16 on target, while Liechtenstein failed to work Gianluigi Buffon in the Italy goal.
That result kept them level on ten points with Spain, who eased past Macedonia by a scoreline of 4-0 thanks to an own goal by Darko Vokoski before second-half strikes by Vitolo, Arsenal's Nacho Monreal and Aritz Aduriz put the result beyond doubt.

In Group G's other game, Israel scored three unanswered goals against Albania to move up to third with nine points thanks to goals from Eran Zahavi, Daniel Einbinder and Eliran Atar.
Zahavi's goal came in the 18th minute from 12 yards after Berat Djimshiti was sent off for a foul in the penalty area, but he failed to make it two from two after being awarded a second spot kick in the 58th minute after Etrit Berisha was given his marching orders for violent conduct.
In Group D, Republic of Ireland ensured they climb to top of the group with an impressive 1-0 win against Austria - James McClean scoring his third goal in two games for Martin O'Neil's side.

Georgia and Moldova drew in a somewhat meaningless tie as they duel at the foot of the group - Valeri Kazaishvili and Aleksandru Gatcan getting their names on the scoresheets.
But Aleksandar Mitrovic's 85th-minute header to cancel out Gareth Bale's first-half strike ruined the party for Wales - the draw enough to keep Serbia two points clear of Chris Colemans' side in second.

Meanwhile, Group I saw Croatia beat Iceland 2-0 thanks to a Marcelo Brozovic double despite Ivan Perisic's late red card to remain top.
Ukraine climbed to second in the group with a 1-0 win against Finland, Artem Kravets with the only goal of the game. Goals Burak Yilmaz and Volkan Sen saw Turkey beat Kosovo 2-0, but they still have a lot to do, sitting fourth in the group at the end of 2016.
